  1. Robin, I think it makes the room, bet the wife comes to love it in time. How could she not. -S- p.s.-BTW, that's a fine tsuba Stephen pointed out, they all are....Sen no Rikyū would approve!
  2. Looks great Robin! Love your choice of case , it should be about the content and not the container, a perfect and well curated display! Now that you have a foothold just imagine the possibilities. Cheers, -S-
  3. Few things are as satisfying, in these days of haste, as the fine hand workmanship of the devoted artisan.
  4. I think he learned that it is very well made and most attractive! Cheers, -S-
  5. There is a similar piece in the collection of the MFA, Boston- accession no. 11.11729 -S- p.s.- they are seperate but related schools.
  6. Bushû school. -S-
  7. Andi, All the metals are artifically patinated and clean shibuichi should improve in time. -S-
  8. Andi, The best thing YOU can do is to wash it with mild soap and water, a very soft brush, and dry it with a clean soft cloth.....gently pat dry and do not rub. Leave it as is, do not handle with bare hands, no wax, and the patina should appreciably improve in time. When the piece looks pleasing to you wax it. I have included a photo of naturally aged properly patinated copper, it should have no raw metalic appearance at all. Does appear to be shibuichi with gold, copper, silver, and shakudo.
  9. Well done Peter! -S-
  10. Great blade, fine photos, interesting and informative post. All interested in this topic should take the time to read it all. -S-
  11. Alton, Fun instructional video! Some lovely pieces in your new offering , the featured piece and that prunus decorated one are standouts....the Rinpa influence always appeals to me....music seems a perfect fit. Thanks for your continued efforts. -S-
  12. Well done Mikolaj, You have produced the proverbial "smoking gun", end of discussion...FINI! No "channels" involved, a clear shot of the mysterious slot in use, a crude but effective technique. Does anyone else have examples of the use of this technique by other schools or individuals? They would be interesting to see. -S-
  13. Steve, Your observation may well be correct. Cheers,
  14. Your "channels" are present everywhere one element borders another, the only association I would make would be one with rudimentary workmanship. -S-
  15. I knew there were more Kogo about, thanks Alton I really enjoyed that. Luscious pomegranate. Unexpected music choice... a good film... worth a look. Cheers, -S-

  17. Walter Compton was involved with this, he had some facinating stories. -S-
  18. Perhaps the notch is a place to tie a cord to secure the sword in the saya, or a cord could be tied for securing around the wrist? -S-
  19. Textbook example of Ichijo during his "Warhol" period, as famous as he is I don''t feel he gets the full measure of respect he deserves. His work ranges from meticulous micro detail to conceptual "serial" art, a varied and facinating career. Fine piece Valery...Well done! -S-
  20. Thanks for posting the info Ken, this is something I must see. -S-
  21. Now thats a photo to start your head spinning, looks very familiar but can't place it. Grey Doffin seems a likely consult, just imagine the amount of printed material he has handled.

    Rabbits

Rabbits are relatively plentiful........fine examples are, most definately, not!
  23. Hi Alton, Enjoyed both videos, the format and music (Shakuhachi, a fav) used in yours fit the piece well. As per age, perhaps one of the resident "experts" will weight in with an opinion. Can't wait to see the Kogo vid the subject has always interested me. LOVE NHK, lots of excellent programming. Cheers,
  24. Alton, This video does a great job of conveying the character of this piece, excellent results. I am amazed at how fleetly you created it. BRAVO! Cheers, -S-
  25. Alton, Yet more lovely pieces, I am beginning to believe you have a magical cornucopia from which they flow! -S-
