  1. Hi Steve, I agree, that will be quite helpful!!! Many thanks. Greg
  2. Hi guys, it surprises me the sword at Aoi-art isnt at a higher price. Great one to own. Interesting stuff thanks guys. Greg
  3. Hello all I find this thread has been quite a positive discussion after all and would like to say that I appreciate each person here and hope I can show that any time I write something in the future. Thank you to you all and its true that it is a hobbie and is meant to be fun. To the more experienced contributers here please keep inspiring us less experienced members. Its you guys that help prevent others from damaging or destroying blades and passing on your knowledge is what keeps Nihonto going! The more we learn the more we realize that there is so much more to learn, i think that goes for everyone at all stages of life. Thanks. Greg
  4. Hi Grev,That is nice! Greg
  5. Hi Frederick, Great looking blade! Beautiful hamon. Regards. Greg
  6. This sword sold for nearly 4 1/2 thousand grand! What do you guys think ? Do you think the buyer beleived the whole cutting test thing or just typical bidding war price or is it fair? I do see blades made out side of Japan go for double that i suppose. If the gold writing was real wouldnt it be likely to have papers to match? I wonder how many people have been victim to this before. Greg
  7. Yes %100 not on my blades, of the few i have they are in new polish anyway but if they weren't there is no way i would risk it myself. Still a way off but doesnt hurt to prepare. Wow more options than i thought Brian, thanks for the link. All the best to all. Greg
  8. Thanks Brian. Ive started making a tanto inspired knife and will be my 1st time trying a homemade hamon so it realy doesnt matter. I wouldnt try anything myself on the real thing. Nice pic. Greg
  9. Sorry to hit a nerve. Maybe elitist isnt the best choice of words but it would be great if newbies could feel welcome with questions. I was a homeless street kid years ago and always dreamed of being involved in Nihonto at some level, now i run a boxing gym and dedicate most my time to helping kids and people better their situation for little financial reward and most of my precious spare time and money is towards learning about nihonto. So hopefully when im as experienced and as educated in Nihonto as much as some of the longer running members here that made me feel welcome and helped put me in the right direction I can help newbies the way ive been helped here or by people that ive met here. Anyway now im ranting too. Greg
  10. Nice! Great to see your building your colection up again!!! Greg
  11. I wonder if they have to go over it everytime the tsuka is removed. The fittings may be touched up too. Its sad that so much dishonor can be found even in the world of Nihonto. Looks like a few bids have been removed. Greg
  12. Steve your reply says it all, Bravo. Not everyo e has the funds, time or education that others have but as long as they have preserving Nihonto as a priority they should be welcomed. A smart fella on this board said maybe there should be a forum for the elitist that doesnt want to deal with people they feel are below them. Personaly i couldnt be happier with this place and the help i receive while occasionally putting up with negativity. Greg
  13. Hello fellow Nihonto gang, Im considering getting some Nugui polish and was wondering what the difference is between kanahada, jitekko and aoko oils are and if i should get all 3 and mix them or use them in a certain order? I want to darken the blade and whiten hamon while bringing out details. Ive found i formation on the net but find theres so many options its too confusing so thought i would seek advice from some more experienced people. I hope im not asking too much but dont want to spend too much if can be avoided. Hoping to get somethig ready to use. All the best. Greg
  14. Hi Tony, Great photos thanks for sharing them. Hope you had a great 60th! Greg
  15. Hi Jeff I absolutely love this blade. If only had the funds now i wouldnt hesitate! Great ad too. Greg
  16. Realy nice good looking waki Grey. Im sure it will go fast.
  17. Amazing work to say the least Ford and Marcus! Greg
  18. Hi Ryan, I have found these books very informative and helpful. still havnt finished them all but heres a few to start with. 1, The art of the Japanese sword by Leon and Hiroko Kapp and Yoshindo Yoshihara. 2,The connoisseurs book of Japanese swords. 3, Japanese swords cultural icons of a nation by Colin M Roach. I also buy the occasional Jananese book off ebay to study the pics but can be expensive for something that I cant read not understanding Japanese. There is a book that is coming in September with English translations advertised in this section under the post called Nihon no bi by the expert Paul Martin that I cant wait to get. Also most people in this message board are very knowledge and helpful, we are very lucky to be here! Good luck and enjoy the very addictive drug called Nihonto! Greg
  19. Hi Pete if you think of selling your Nobuyoshi if the future please let me know. I may lucky enough to have the funds at the time hopefully. when I eventualy have mine mounted I will put some pics up. All the best. Greg
  20. Looks good! Not sure ive seen this habaki before but I like it. The seller said he thinks my habaki could be original but I don't know. Im hoping to one day be able to have Kam at Jigoku Studios do a nice koshirae for mine. Thanks for sharing. Greg
  21. Hi Peter, Some very nice stuff to look at! I like some of the Warrior ceremonial outfits. I think a lot of people will find it interesting and helpful to have a look at this stuff. Im getting married in the near future and ive nearly got my lovely lady convinced we should save and honeymoon in Japan and would love to see her in some of the beautiful stuff the Ladies used to wear in the good old days. Thanks for sharing Greg
  22. I thought it would be nice to display a nice bonsai and hanging scroll close to a sword stand on a table and now I have around 35 bonsai and counting and 5 scrolls. Greg
  23. Hi Paul I would love a copy! the pics sound great but having English translation would make it a great learning tool. Cheers Greg
  24. Hi Pete, Thank you for the pics. Beautiful blade! Plenty of nie and I like a good bohi. Is it with shirasaya or Koshirae? If Koshirae I would like to see it all dressed if its no trouble. I eventualy plan to get nice koshirae for mine. Thank you Greg
  25. Hi Klaus, For Koshirae Kam at Jigoku Studios in Brisbane Australia is very talented! good luck greg
