  3. Hi, yeah Axel that is the same thought that crossed my mind! Paul, i did not want to insult the naginata, nor the seller that listed it. I was just wondering, why this quite nice blade sit´s there naked . In fact it could be my next purchase. Regards,
  4. Hi fellow members, when i was visiting aoi-art some time ago, i recognized this naginata: http://www.aoijapan.com/naginata-mumei-attributed-as-higo-kami-kuniyasu I thought, that it Looks like quite a good Piece, surely not high end but an honest Piece of work. But it seems that Tsurata-san thinks that this Piece is not even good enough for a shirasaya. Is it really that bad? Could be common, but i have never seen a bare blade on aoi before. regards,
  5. Hi Jesse, for tsuba, i have seen shakudo, lead and Gold and a lot of alloys of such metals. Did you mean menuki or mekugi? For mekugi, lead was the material of choice. regards,
  6. Hi Jon, thank you for the info, but i will not leave my nutshell of an office till... a "certain amount" of time has past. Regards,
  7. Hi gents, glad to hear that he is still around ! I am able to wait (and to raise some funds). Regards,
  8. He has withdrawn all his listings for quite some time now. Is he out of Business or is he just not selling on ebay any longer? Eric is one of only a few respectable dealers with high quality items on evilbay. Regards,
  9. Is there really a 10% Discount on Aoi Art, if you are a member of the board? :D Regards,
  10. A fuchi-kashira signed "YOSHIOKA INABA NO SUKE"... gimei of course ! Because of that, i was not able to buy a very very very very... nice (papered) satsuma tsuba . But at least i learned something . Regards,
  11. Hi Peter, Thank you so much! Regards,
  12. Woops !? Seems like i lost my connoiseurs book! Could you scan the page for me or send me a PM with the info? Regards,
  13. Hi Stephen and Peter, thank you for your comments . I do have both books and i should read them more often it seems. I have to check the connoisseurs book, but the Information in the shin-shinto shi are quite scarce. I know that these blade had been worn by Samurai of the Satsuma, Tosa and Choshu-han. But who else wore them? Was it dangerous to wear them in certain areas (edo) ? Is there any further literature about it? It would be nice if members with kinno-to would post them . Regards,
  14. Hello guys, some time ago i came across this term and wondered about the meaning. I think the term loyalist blade describes a certain type of blade in terms of the dimensions (heavy kasane, slightly or even significantly longer than standard) and it had to be produced in a quite narrow time period (shin-shinto period,1860´s). But i could not really find any further explanation, for example which group started to wear them first (Sonno-joi)? Was it a political statement or just something to annoy the establishment? This is a katana of my collection. It has a kasane of 9,3mm and a nagasa of 75,3cm. It was forged around the 1860`s and therefore i think that it is quite a standard example of this type. Any comments are welcome Regards,

  19. Germany: - No Import duties (but you have to prove that the item is over 100 years old) - VAT: 19% + 17,5 % taxes on the shipping costs And now it get´s a bit difficult ! If you can´t (or you are just not willing to) prove that the item is over 100 years old, you have to pay additional 1,7% (customs tariff number: 93070000 Säbel, Lanzen, Teile hiervon...) of the Price of the item as custom duties. That is one method, the other is Kind of flat-rate-based and a bit easier (for the customs officer to calculate), but generally you have to pay more because the whole package is taxed with 17,5%. Regards,
  20. Butterflies ! I don´t have a clue... bamboo maybe? Regards,
  21. Stats? Great blade by the way!

    Hi @ all

Hi Chris, the seller stated that the wakizashi was from the edo period (and priced accordingly). So it could be that i paid for a mumei shinto wakizashi and got myself a quite healthy koto blade? Sounds not so bad to me ! I am now sure that it was shortened somewhere in the past. Unfortunetely they did a pretty sloppy job by just hammering the edge flat (to shape a new nakago). But all in all this "plain old edo period wakizashi" get´s more and more interesting. regards,

    Hi @ all

Hi Henk-Jan, i´ve always been unsure about that beaten metal on the cutting edge side. The seller stated that the blade is ubu mumei. But i think the fact that the wak was born as a katana, makes the piece more interesting . Thank you for your thoughts ! regards,
