Dear all-especially Morita-san(perhaps? )? here´s something i definitely do me hard in reading(translating)... Is there somebody here who could help me in translating this Gaki? I am on 9th,Meiji and something like Yoshi(Yoshihara)-Bof(?) Anybody here who can read this "Craqueleé"? Any help is very hearthly welcome! Christian

Dear Brian, i wish i would know and could tell...LOL! Some(still too much)missing links and missing reference objects so to give an idea here which would sound anyways plausible i must confess. Laugh! Rich, you just did post those items equally me,i would do an very hard jump to ... ! Let´s keep on going Chris

Bruno, Hugues is a very well known person. Ask him he may give you the exact description-as he definitely does know about! Christian
-
Dear KM, This is an Tsuba which dates long before Nambokucho-if it may date prime Heian or Kamakura-times is actually still an question we do just to say it simple;have not enough reference-examples to compare with;so to get an certain facts-conclusion and we just can attribute it speculatively,so to answer your´s question. It was examined from several independant to each other working curators and metallurgists till yet, equally i did contact some other personalities who all gave me their´s statement. Yes-me,too i do love such old artifacts! Christian
-
here is one of mine recent acquisitions which i do like a very lot actually. It´s VERY old in fact.... Christian
-
Dear Piers, yes-i agree-most probably such will happen... The point but is-are you yourself(as the collector) rather attached on getting an statement by an organisation having an specific interest-or are you rather attached(again as the collector here) on getting an statement by an organisation explaining you with proof the WHY an howewer resulting statement results in Shinsa. Next point; and much more important point to considder-"Who" does make Shinsa? Are there independant working experts in that ever occuring field of art an specific object belongs to involved? Are those indepentant working scientists, curators, restaurators who give their´s statement equally independant to each others one? Are those experts bound due an specific organisation and due this to specific interests? Do you get an specific statement by each one-or just an sum-conclusion? And finally-What do you do if two experts do not conclude to the final attribution? Who is right? Who may be right? Here again-now it´s up to yourself again...(Laugh) (Very religious!LOL!) This,in mine eyes is much more interesting and an to be quite commonly seen happening-so yes! an fresh analytical but still academical and scientifical research would be excellent! Christian
-
Dear Ford, this is correct what you write! Please but do calculate, that an such study had not ben possible to work out-without the needed knowledge in metallurgical researches to be done. Christian
-
Dear Ford here you may find the "seeking" answer... (i but, already did mention this above) there´s more info available,too-yet,but not published officially till yet! Mr.Haynes is 100% Right in this Thesis and Statement-that´s all i can say actually. Christian

Dear Gentlemen, Oh-please No!-not again this "neverending" "Cast-Religion" here again. I do not know how many times already this all discussion did arise-but it seems-it may still be of some "mind" importance? For those still "shaking" -please read Prof.Cynthea J. Bogel then! One private thing in addition: Find me an Real Cast Iron one from Muromachi/Momoyama/early Edo-and i´m very shure we(both) would come in business here! Just mine two cents(!)... Christian

Dear David , Yes!-an Yagyu Tsuba!(and an very nice one, too!) Very well done! Keep on going in this diriction Cheers Christian

Hello Ludolf , Yes,-this is the right direction you head for!... Yamada Yoka(Joka-different writing forms occur in German and English references)but still the same school. I actually just can reference me on the description given by Jacoby and the afterwards analysis made by Kümmel and Feddersen. Okabe did equally write some points in english publications-but here he just did copy Jacoby again. Here´s an example(see attached picture) of the work of that school with an metallic(namely copper) core(the one in the British Museum collection and equally published online) -the examples i do am looking for-so to get further info is but with an Leather-laminated wooden core material, which is sheetet with an copper plate(both sides) and overlacquered in same manner like others referenced in those mentioned publications... Tricky..Tricky..Laugh! Christian

Hi all, i do need some more info on the Yamada School. Does anybody have relating information or pictures of Tsuba which can be categorisised/attributed to this Group? (already do have all info available which Kümmel,Jacoby,Feddersen,Okabe did publish)- but would feel very happy about any other info which i actually do not have here. Especially looking for info on Tsuba made by Yamada Yoka(Edo)... (the British Museum one,i do know equally-looking for others as reference..) Anybody here who can help me Cheers Christian

Could this character perhaps also be a variation of "GO"? So perhaps from an Tsukai-Ban? (really don´t know..) Christian -
Dear Ian Henry did post an very funny "relating" some time ago in an other thematics and threat.... Perhaps he will see it,and(?) (th)read(t) this post? It was, either way-very funny!-so i do hope he(Henry) will get online, and will be willing to(join this)(?)(.. tricky cartoon) very soon-LOL! Christian

Oh, i am very sorry here Mariusz! Thought in an completely different way here-in fact there are several i have seen(...) till yet! What are you looking for information(perhaps?) in regard of the motive,stylism,execution-as there are slightly but important points to considder due ways of execution and time those individual works were executed... (Just PM me...) I am very sorry again you did missunderstood mine question! ! Christian
-
Dear Mariusz , the so called "Raiden" motive or stylism is so far,an typical one... What in fact do you want to know,or are interested in? Shoami(since Ko..) did love to execute them...(regularely)... (i just can say-indeed it´s perhaps not in "the actual common"to be found-but still available Looking for? Chris

Hello, well i am very sorry-but i do not see any "Stars-Constellation" here. This is rater an pure stilistic ellement-seen quite ofthen. Here just for reference one(in the 2016 Lot) which is just actually on sales-tables: http://www.auction.de/catalogues/epaper ... .html#/116 Christian

Dear Mikolaj! Those are(each one itself)-Excellent! An georgeous collection! Christian

Hello James, yes, there are several collectors in that area-perhaps one of them does read your´s post here and may invite you for an personal meeting? On specialised shops i can not say-those i do know are rather asian boutiques in Cologne/Düsseldorf/Bonn area-which,but are not very specialised in the blades-thematics. On Museums-if you do have the time-just make you a nice tripp to the Deutsches Klingenmuseum in Solingen(have an look on the opening times in net-they are online)....thats not directly in Cologne but not far away/and will give you an nice days-tripp,too.... Hope this helps? Christian

Just picked up my wakizashi.... (EDIT - resized pics now)
christianmalterre replied to gtstcactus's topic in Nihonto
Dear Jason, well-if that polish is 25 years old as you did write me,there should at least ben visible some kind of metallurgical characteristics-i even can´t see an hada here(to be honest)-so yes of course,if this is possible-please do try to get some better pictures of the blade... Best would be pictures taken in higher resolution and under direct Sunlight and additionally under an "cold light"(like Halogen ect),too... The Osaka diriction was mine very first choice here(Curvature,Shape of cunstruction,Boshi,Hamon) So to answer on your´s question in addition of course-please do try to get the Afu Shinto and Shinshinto volumes(if you do not have them already)-some of the depicted blades do show similarities to the your´s here... )(not directly-but all of them had Osaka as ideal or do come directly from that direction and/or influence) Those books are not very expensive-also not specific in one single direction of school-but well written, with good and workable photos;and they do give you an first oversight on the serious study of blades... (There but,may be collectors here in the forum-who certainly do have much deeper and pronounced knowledge in Kantei-mine "Sword passion" is a while ago now...) I would be equally interested what they say here.... Mine guess is actually-this is an Shinshinto O-Suriage....but i can definitely be wrong of course! LoL! Either way-i think this may help you in research...and...(do not thrust everybody offering you a blade-LOL!) Christian
