With due respect Chris, may i ask you on what fact you do ground your´s hypothesis here? Your´s very personal "theory" sounds very interesting for me! I´d ben very keen in learning more of this! (you equally may P.M.me if you like-no need so to post your´s thoughts in the forum if there may be preference(s) from your´s side...)(???) Very interesting either way! Christian

David, do you have that article relating to Onin-Tsuba written by John Berta(under "guidance" of Bob Haynes)? If not,let me know... Chris
-
Hoh! i really do not know John, but i think you are right here...this may fitt... Looks to be an lovely little new addition to your´s collection David. (i don´t recall the name of it-but there´s an book spreading out there, dealing with such Tsuba/Generally something Titeled like "Tsuba with Zogan"/You may have an look for it-it´s not expensive, very well made, plenty of very excellent colour photograps... there´s this very one stylism you have here, equally depicted.) Very nice David! Like it very much-good found! Christian

? pretty shure-when "they" pierce into your´s muscles and bones-you certainly would not mind of any "distinctive comparence to word-attributions"-Not? LOL!(I do Joke!) Speaking honestly... There´s no difference! The Koshirae may change-the blade not(in good case)-so equally the formal "expression" does/would change...that´s all that "magic" behind... Christian

Ford, i think there´s absolutely no reason at all to apology yoursself here! Far away! You are definitely right and your´s words here do only represent the thoughts of many collectors i think(?),not just mine own here. Especially the "field" Tsuba is far from easy to study, and there´s very certainly an much higher "need" in critical analysis, than just simplifying onesself proceeds in just referencing some written sources here... (Of course-we both will still stay friends as long the "Rustic" thematics will not ben discussed heading into the Yagyu-Group ...LOL!) Attached an little charming essaye which may fitt in some points regarding this discussion here. Me personally do love it a lot Interested readers may judge for themself please.... Chris

Jim, here we are again with "Caveat Emptor"-as the good old Romans said... Either way-it looks like to be an more than just common practice(as this above example is just an example-there are many more) I just can say-if there really is an serious interest in an object-do contact collectors friends first(as most times, those answers you´ll get, will be honest) If no friends-then use this forum here...go to shows, fairs, buy books-study.... ! Christian

Ian i already did see-reason why i did just post this "exorbitant important item here"-Laugh! I but have one more-the very hiking "peak" if i may allow me to express... it´s not that long ago-this Baseball was equally offered by an "reputed" German seller on his home-page...can´t remember the exact price, was but quite identical "reasoned"...Laugh! Christian

seems somehow equal "way of business" like with those both here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDO-Japanese-SA ... 578wt_1396 and: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOMOYAMA-EDO-Ja ... 371wt_1396 LOL! (Despite the fact that i never saw an such high-priced Baseball-everything seems correct on first sight....LOL! (Hell-i really wonder who would buy such rubbish?-Sorry-No other words...) Christian

A tale of two tsubas - same guy, same shop, or....?
christianmalterre replied to rkg's topic in Tosogu
how about the idea that Nr.1(Rich´s) is Original and Nr.2 (Rich´s friend) is an much latter done Utsushi? I can follow your´s question Steven, equally do see those points mentioned by Bruce,Reinhard and Ford here...which all do include parts of obviously to be seen facts...i rather think-there´s an maybe error in conclusion here(?) To be honest-actually i do see Nr 2 as quite comparatively modern(very late Edo) Of course-this discussion will not proof any fact-we had(equally)the need in comparing the both in hands..actually,i but guess-Nr. 2 is equally much heavier in it´s weight(compared with #1 again here-even if those dimensions seem to be rather equal) Just an idea-purely speculative.... (and just one point more here to considder: The Iron of #1 is very good!-The Iron of #2 but! is not that good comparatively...) Christian -
Adam, just seriously speaking-this is an wonderful! Tsuba So,either/anyways-if you do have the "willing"-take it-Do that! Honestly speaking-what do you want else?(??) It´s Representative!(Much better than plenty of others published) It´s Nice!(The execution is perfect-at least from what i do can judge here without seeing it in hands...) It´s offered by Highest Reputation(so forget mine eyes, and hands-thrust the seller...(!) What do you want else? I just can say-if it´s your´s(eventual "Avatar")-don´t hesitate so to take it! Christian

Always(?) the same Joker John :D !(?) Christian (you were right of course!)

Henry, i am quite not shure if this theory you mention can be called "still accurate" here? This may be an possibility-tend,but-rather to agree with Johns post here... As John says-this is an very common stylism element to be seen on handycraft/folkcraft... I rather think it´s "loaned" due "vogue" from these.... Buddhism, plus its Japanese sub-group sects,(Shingon,Tendai,Pure-Land and so on)had not such important influence on the warrior-beliefs(if not already extincted entirely) in latter Edo times...(their´s prime was much earlier-such influences already got "extincted"/latestly by Nobunaga, earliestly during Sengoko) And this-is an very common to see and find pattern(especially on Edo to latter Edo dated pieces)-so i would be critic here-at least. An possibility-however-may be plausible however... Christian

Dear Ernst, just saw your´s request here....this is on first sight an nice sword here! Where are you situated?(Germany?)-if yes,(as me,too)i will send you some documents given out by Kenji Mishina and Michael Hagenbusch(German language)which very clearly explain and show several points of your´s recent inquiery here... Just PM me... Christian

Shure you would! (you "stole" me one i´d admire!!!!!!!) LOL! Christian
-
?? Obviously it does seem-you do have to do further "objective"(s) into study! LOL! Come on Mariusz-you do know yoursself here!(certainly of course, -as me,i will not do that for you!-this...,of course(Laugh!)is up to you,to be an question to answer and evaluate for yoursself....) (Not?) Hearthly! Christian

this discussion is some abstrusing in mine eyes. The one from David is definitely an fake(and additionally-an bad one-sorry to say this)-so that´s the reason it got refused(in all aspects),the next one is not much better-please do have an look for Tsuba from YKB when the first three who signed were in their´s prime-please do study the literature here. Lamenting about metallurgical points(which but are not visible here in both)-will certainly not help here-there were plenty of Bishu-Tsubashi(as Steven already wrote) reproducing Tsuba(in "taste""vogue""stylism" from Momoyama/Keicho/Genwa...look at the Yagyu(Kwambun)-group(s)(quite best example here so to spread this impression into an next level)...Norisuke(+group)did equally jump on that vogue(partially with quite very intriguing professionality!).. What?-to be honest, and asking to yoursself-do you expect?-there´s not much innovation seen in especially those latter Edo-Bishu groups...they did loose more than they gained....other schools did but grow to their´s prime!... christianmalterre replied to CurtisR's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
Of course you do right in NOT bidding! That´s Rubbish!-even not worth to have an look on them. Christian -
