Dunno what to think of this one. My Spidey senses are tingling like mad....the instincts I use when bidding or avoiding a bid are screaming at me. But none of the complex tells/signs are present to indicate stolen accounts, fake feedback, fraudulent listings or other "issues"

I am not sure what to advise here. The description style seems familiar...other products a mix of stuff.

Maybe a steal...maybe stolen. LOL. Good luck to whoever takes a chance.

The photography and description look very similar to the komonjo (Mike Yamaguchi) listings, and if I'm not going senile, I believe he sold this exact sword a while back. There's no way to tell how many times it's changed hands since then, but at the very least, if anyone's interested in it they could shoot him a query asking if he's given permission for his photographs to be used in the listing (if he did, it would be a good sign that the auction is legit and not a scam).

Note to moderators: if any of the above is against site policy in dealing with live auctions, please feel free to delete and/or add an explanation so I and others don't make the same mistake twice.

i emailed mr. yamaguchi and he answered most of my questions. he does believe this was previously sold by him, and that this is indeed a blade by kawachi kunihira.

based on the kapp/yoshihara book, i assume that this is one of kunihiras Shizu-style blades.

seems like not a bad price for a mukansa smith.

Just make sure the blade is in the posession of the seller, and it isn't listed with the old pics and info.

Doesn't appear so..but you know how stolen pics and info are used nowdays with stolen accounts.

In this case, PP is accepted and the other items listed appear legit, so looks ok...but you have to be careful nowdays.

Hi,

Some Photos look like the same as from the eBay auction at September 2010 (I have a copy of this auction in my file library ;-) ). At this time Blade has been sold for 2.014,- USD

Anyway, auction seems legit !!

I would think that no one bidding thought it was a genuine blade. I have my doubts as well...I would have the smith take a look at it before I bought it....

I notice this dealer has many gendai and wwii era blades for sale. Always big names, and always seemingly at too cheap a price. They always give me a funny feeling.

Kunihira was made mukansa in 1987...this sword is dated 1992, made when when he was already mukansa. Wouldn't a dealer include information regarding this and also produce papers to facilitate a sale at the appropriate value for such a smith?

just thinking out loud...
