sencho Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Albert, They are fake chinese rubbish... where are you being offered these... on the internet?? Cheers Quote
muse matso Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 An older gentlemen have bought these swords (20 off them) in the 60/70ties in germany, where he was stationed as a tankcommander. Sorry for my english. Regards Albert. Quote
sanjuro Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 These are all blatantly fake Chinese rubbish! Are you serious about not being able see the difference between these and nihonto? Buy books.... Even the most elementary ones will give you a bit of basic knowledge that will help you spot such obvious fakes. Sorry to be so blunt, but quite honestly if you dont know the difference between these specimens and the real thing then you shouldnt even be considering buying nihonto. Sorry..... Just the way I see it. Quote
muse matso Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Swords are not my thing, so that is way i don't no nothing about them. Number 5 and 9 : i think maybe they are real, with my untrained eye. Albert. Quote

takakage Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Hi, Number 1 is a chinese fake, sorry. Quote
muse matso Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Hello, And this one? Regards Albert. Quote
Bruno Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Last one you posted is mega fake! Sorry Quote
Bruno Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 The one on photos 4 and 5 has a guenine Type 3 handle so maybe you should post more photos of this one, the rest is all rubish. Quote
sencho Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 An older gentlemen have bought these swords (20 off them) in the 60/70ties in germany, where he was stationed as a tankcommander. Were chinese crappers on sale 40 - 50 years ago??? I was in short trousers back then, so maybe I am wrong, but I would thing that they weren't so much... some of the more seasoned members maybe able to advise differently... Anyway, by my reasoning, you are being fed a story about the 60's and 70's... cheers! Quote
Bruno Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 It is only my guess but your older gentleman probably bought all these swords the past years (months?) on Ebay, thinking they were real, then realized they were all chinese fakes. He told you a nice story to sell you the swords as he knows no connoisseurs would be interested in them. My 2 cents point of view. Regards Quote
Brian Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 5 and 9 have a chance of being real..the rest are junk. Btw..here's a little hint.. Anytime you see any writing or pictures or any markings at all on the habaki of a sword...consider it a fake! I know there might be some exceptions, but those you don't have to worry about and they will show themselves to be real very obviously at that stage. But at your level.....ANY writing on the habaki = fake. Brian Quote
Bruno Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I beleive the last one you posted (9) (the one I said the handle is guenine) is a real gunto at least. Quote
muse matso Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Hello everyone, Thank you all for clarification off the swords/katana's. When i have more pictures i post them (5 and 9),and i hope to hear some good news? Regards Albert. Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 last chance with number 5 and 9!!! Quote
blekk Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I might only be a newbie when it comes to Nihonto, but definitely no newbie when it comes to ebay! Trawling thru as I often do I have seen multiples of all of these Imperial Japanese Warrior Sword for sale from the same and from different sellers ALL based in the "Land of the long Production Line" - China. So from one newbie to another, and please don't take this the wrong way but there are NO cheap short cuts, so when in doubt research! As another member has posted somewhere here on the message boards before; A seller will always tell you it's genuine, and a buyer will always say it's a fake! EDIT: Unless they are from this Message board Blair Quote
Jacques Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Hi, This latter seems to be a genuine showato, as it bears a star stamp it may be (or not) traditionnaly made. Quote
muse matso Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 Thanks, Can you translate the mei? how old. Albert. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Albert, time for you to do a bit of reading.... Showato is very specifically the age of that blade. Ken Quote
David Flynn Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 I believe this sword is now on ebay! Quote
