Had a call from a chap who said he had some bits of a sword that when clearing his garden to build a shed had found this in the foundation.........For your amusement. Roy Quote

SwordGuyJoe Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Yeah, but even at $100 per inch he'd only be out about $50... Quote

Justin Grant Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 I wonder why the blade and wood would be completly rotten, but the tsuba looks to have very little damage.... Quote
Mark Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 the tsuba is not iron, it is shakudo so non-ferous it will not rust. Shakudo can get ugly green build up but maybe the way it was stored/used saved it. I thought it strange that the tsuba had not been "dinged" scratched, dented, bent etc but you never know Quote
raaay Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Hi Roy just a comment, this tsuba is iron is it not ! regards ray Quote
hybridfiat Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Shakudo - 2-4% gold the rest copper with maybe a touch of silver. Goes jet black when patinated. Does not corrode as swiftly as iron or steel. Hence the success at restoration. Quote
