I have been told by she who rules that for fear of annoying pretty much everyone because I have time to spare , that I have to stop posting,so be it but just had to show these.

 

Had a call from a chap who said he had some bits of a sword that when clearing his garden to build a shed had found this in the foundation.........For your amusement.

the tsuba is not iron, it is shakudo so non-ferous it will not rust. Shakudo can get ugly green build up but maybe the way it was stored/used saved it. I thought it strange that the tsuba had not been "dinged" scratched, dented, bent etc but you never know

Shakudo - 2-4% gold the rest copper with maybe a touch of silver. Goes jet black when patinated. Does not corrode as swiftly as iron or steel. Hence the success at restoration.

As below, the plate was Shakudo with gold and silver overlay. As you may remember it was thought by an "Expert" at the time to be Ko Mino copy...........

 

Hows life in the North...still hoarding treasures? 8)

it was only a Ko Mino copy because you know who wanted it :lipssealed:

 

But it still has a Iron body :?:
