JamesK Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Hello, I am new to this forum. I have a few family owned swords that I would like to get identified as to the maker. The first signature is from a WWII naval sword, the second signature is from an army one. Quote
Rich S Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 The first sword is signed "Ishido Teruhide saku" (Ishido = family name) Teruhide (smith's name) saku (made). See my webpage on him at: http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/teruhide.htm Second sword I can't translate completely: Noshu Seki ju ..... Kane.. Rich S Quote
Nobody Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 The second one is Kanetsugu. 濃州関 前川兼継作之 – Noshu Seki Maekawa Kanetsugu kore o tsukuru 1 Quote
JamesK Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 I would consider selling the long swords. Is it possible to get a valuation on this forum? Quote

cisco-san Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I would consider selling the long swords. Is it possible to get a valuation on this forum? James, Recently there was a sword from "Noshu Seki Maekawa Kanetsugu" on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3D1&_rdc=1 Quote
Brian Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Values are something we always steer away from, as there are no set rules, and what sells today for $2000 might fetch $1200 tomorrow. What something is worth is one thing. People aren't looking to pay wht it is worth. Everyone wants a bargain. At a very rough guess, I would estimate the Showato around $800-1200, and the Gendaito maybe $1500-2500. But just a guess. This assumes good condition, with no flaws and no condition issues. Since we don't have good pics, it is all guesswork. Brian Quote
