nulldevice Posted September 8 Report Posted September 8 I contacted Me No Me regarding Tanobe's newest work on the Yamashiro tradition translated by Markus Sesko as part of Tanobe’s gokaden series and they sent me a live product page for international orders. I know the Yamato den book was popular and many people here were trying to get a copy of one without paying inflated prices. I just placed my order this morning after they provided me a link so we will see how de-minimus and other tariff laws apply as its shipped internationally. https://ringringdo.com/products/9784907211356 7 Quote
Lewis B Posted September 8 Report Posted September 8 I'm hoping the Bizen and Soshuden editions arrive soon as these are my fav gokaden. In the meantime the Yamashiro will be a nice accompanyment for the Yamato. These books are very informed and thorough reference works and well worth acquiring at retail price. 1 Quote
nulldevice Posted September 8 Author Report Posted September 8 I'm not sure the order in which Markus is translating these so we'll have to wait and see. Or maybe he can chime in on what he's working on next as I imagine he'll be the translator for all 5/6 (I think there are 2 Bizen-den) books. Quote
Brano Posted September 8 Report Posted September 8 Maybe I'm wrong, but I only know of three Gokaden no Tabi books by Tanobe-sensei Yamato and Yamashiro are supplemented by Bizen-Den, but this book is only for the Osafune lineage Quote
Lewis B Posted September 8 Report Posted September 8 This is the Bizenden edition in Japanese (brown cover). No mention of it being only for the Osafune school https://www.aoijapan.com/book-nihonto-gokaden-no-tabi-bizen-denauthor-tanobe-michihiro/ Quote
nulldevice Posted September 8 Author Report Posted September 8 Just now, Lewis B said: This is the Bizenden edition in Japanese (brown cover). No mention of it being only for the Osafune school https://www.aoijapan.com/book-nihonto-gokaden-no-tabi-bizen-denauthor-tanobe-michihiro/ It does look like the book here only covers the Osafune lineage looking at the table of contents in Aoi's picture it goes from Mitsutada through Motoshige Quote
Lewis B Posted September 8 Report Posted September 8 In that case I guess the scope of this Gokaden was too wide for such a publication, so Tanobe decided to concentrate on the preeminent lineage. At 221 pages its still a hefty treatise. Quote
Markus Posted September 8 Report Posted September 8 These books are not related to my own online Gokaden series, they are translations of Tanobe Sensei's books on the same topic, as Brano pointed out. Bizen I (Osafune School) has been translated by me and submitted, and I think the publisher Me no Me has it scheduled for spring of 2026. I am meeting with them in Japan in two months and discuss the future volumes, based on the way Tanobe Sensei is comfortable with continuing writing them (and has made progress so far). 11 3 Quote

Scogg Posted September 25 Report Posted September 25 Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I am looking forward to it, as yamashiro is quickly becoming my favorite of the gokaden. The Yamato book had the extra section on Saiha. Does the yamashiro book have an extra section, too? -Sam Quote
