Grey Doffin Posted April 17 Report Posted April 17 Hi folks, Sad to tell you that Skip Holbrook has left us. Skip was a long time, knowledgeable and generous, with his knowledge collector/student of kodogu. I learned a lot from him. He will be missed. Grey 6 Quote

Steve Waszak Posted April 17 Report Posted April 17 Another jarring loss. The tsuba world, it seems, has been especially hard hit in the past several months (Ford Hallam, Bruce Kirkpatrick, Skip Holbrook). I'll miss you, Skip. RIP my friend. 3 Quote
Curran Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 The passing of the Olde Garde, or pillars of the last generation. Of the 3, Skip was the quietest and most difficult to get to know. Yet, I think I knew him best. We often talked at shows, and eventually came to exchange phone calls now and then. 2 Quote
Soshin Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 Sorry to hear about the loss of Skip Holbrook. I had his contact information in my iPhone and his business card. I remember getting a wonderful trade from him for heavily damaged tsuba I had one year at the old Tampa show. I remember the trade vividly as he was willing to trade three of this nice condition tsuba for my one heavily damaged tsuba that he wanted to work on and try to improve its condition. That tsuba was later restored completely by him and it was papered Tokubetsu Hozon by the NBTHK at shinsa. I remember talking to him mostly at shows, he was very knowledgeable. He had his master's degree in art where he studied the patination process applied to iron by my premodern Japanese sword fitting artists. It is a sad day. 1 Quote
