Mark Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 i have a katana. it is suriage. on one side i see Tempo 9 th year 8th month then "Michi" or something, i don't understand what that may mean after the date, maybe more that was cut off? the other side is a challenge for me i can make out a few kanji but can't understand the meaning, again maybe some is missing any help appreciated mark Quote
Toryu2020 Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 What are the mounts Mark? Any evidence that this nakago was altered - looks like you have a place name, a family name (Ono) but no first name - on the ura the Michi? may be the start of the owners name? now cut off? -t Quote
SteveM Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 吹毛且不動 小野 (rest is cut off) Suimō katsu fudō Ono- Suimō means sharp ("sharp enough to cut a hair by just blowing on the hair and letting it fall on the blade") Fudō in this context presumably means unbreakable. So "Sharp and unbreakable Ono---" 2 Quote
