Lareon Posted March 1, 2022 Report Posted March 1, 2022 I've seen a few threads on the Sarute for the Type 3 but i've gathered the following 1. the sarute can be cloth 2. the sarute can be an unadorned metal loop 3. no sarute and the tassel threaded through the hole. (ana?) I tried to insert a tassel into the Sarute hole as it is missing any form of sarute, it clearly doesn't fit in the slightest. does anyone have an example of this working? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted March 1, 2022 Report Posted March 1, 2022 I haven't observed the holes to see if they vary in size. I've seen several. Here's mine: Quote
Lareon Posted March 1, 2022 Author Report Posted March 1, 2022 Maybe i'm just being too gentle, i could not slot it through Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 2, 2022 Report Posted March 2, 2022 Unless the tassel is in good condition and still flexible, you may just end up damaging it. 1 Quote
george trotter Posted March 4, 2022 Report Posted March 4, 2022 According to the original model drawing pub. in 1944 the tassel is "threaded" through the hole and "looped". All the different types of sarute seen are just individual officer's 'unofficial' personal choice. Of the RS hilts I have had in hand, the hole diameter is a standard size. Also, I have tried "threading" the tassel through the hole and it went through fine...no damage etc. Hope this helps. 3 Quote

Butch Posted March 13, 2022 Report Posted March 13, 2022 Managed to get the leather hanger wich originally was with this sword when it first whent to auction , The hanger attachment to the sword belt is painted in the normal Japanese field green paint . Some pics plus a image of a leather platted hanger exactly the same as mine being carried by a officer surrending his sword . 2 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 14, 2022 Report Posted March 14, 2022 Shame it isn't your sword, that would be a real jackpot to find. Quote
