Jonhughes Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Hello, I just purchased this katana. It is a piece that requires some restoration but I was happy to get it for the price I paid. Any information on the maker or the era? Quote
Jonhughes Posted August 24, 2021 Author Report Posted August 24, 2021 Ps, I am a bit of a novice so please go easy on me. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Look up Okochi Tsunehira and you may find that this could be the name of a previous owner??? http://worldcat.org/identities/lccn-n82091076/ Quote
Nobody Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 I am afraid that the katana may be a fake. Quote
Jonhughes Posted August 24, 2021 Author Report Posted August 24, 2021 Could you explain why you think that? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 The low quality of the fittings and the way the signature is done do not look original. Quote

The shape and finish of the nakago look strange. There was an appraiser with the same name “Okochi Tsunehira” in around 1925. He also made swords. You can see his mei on the linked page. Jonhughes Posted August 25, 2021 Author Report Posted August 25, 2021 Well thank you all. I was able to get refunded. I guess the next question is... Anyone have a real project sword for sale?! Haha. Quote
