Kuat Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 guys, who sells top quality, sharpened modern nihonto ? Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Kuat, Go through the links at the page top of commercial sites. There are quite a few that deal with shinsakuto like Usagiya for example. They have quite a range in price and depending on what you will use them for a lot of choices. John Quote
Kuat Posted November 5, 2006 Author Report Posted November 5, 2006 Got it, thanks a lot John. I'm a new collector and i just want to own a real Japanese blade of exceptional quality and condition. I'm still learning about antiques. Quote
b.hennick Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 You will find that shinsakuto are as expensive or more expensive than many antiques. Quote
Kuat Posted November 6, 2006 Author Report Posted November 6, 2006 Yes i know. BTW, why do you think they are so expensive? Because of the flawless condition of a new blade? Og and If anyone know any other places besides Usagiya, please let me know \ Thanks. Quote
Brian Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 There is this one in the links page: http://www.lostdays.org/shinsakuto/Default.asp Shinsakuto.org Would be worth a browse through there I think. Brian Quote
Kuat Posted November 6, 2006 Author Report Posted November 6, 2006 Guys, check out this Tachi http://www.ksky.ne.jp./~sumie99/sword33.html If it was made by Osumi Toshihira, Living National Treasure, why is it so relatively cheap? ~$25k Quote
Ed Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 To answer your previous question regarding why shinsakuto are so exspensive, I would guess it is simple. Today's smith trying to make a living in a very exspensive world. Just my guess for what it is worth. Quote
David Flynn Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 I look at it like buying a car. the cost of a new car ( not counting the cheap models ) is so much. After you buy it, it then depreciates until it bottoms out. Then after many many years you reach antique status Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Another site to explore if you haven't already. http://www.tousyoukai.jp/english/index.shtml FD Quote
