MarcoUdin Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 So I think the title is misleading because the Shin gunto Mount started later but I think he means 1923 built blade which I don't read kanji so I can't confirm that. My question was why does that fuchi just not look right to me? Any opinions on value of the blade? https://www.gunbroker.com/item/868095114 Quote
Brian Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 Dunno where he is sucking that date from.It is a wartime made arsenal sword, with the Sho(wa) stamp. Bit of a mix with non military fittings. It's probably at it's market value or just a little bit under. No steal though. His BIN is insane. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 I have seen quite a variety of mixed fittings when the blade came from a family donation, then refitted for the army. But this isn't a family blade. The Showa stamp says it was made for the army. The felt spacer and civil fuchi might have been added post-war. Can't picture an active duty Japanese officer switching out those items for personalization purposes. Quote
Geraint Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 Dear Marc. Check out Matsuda Kanetaka. Showato but often quite nice. All the best. 1 Quote
