I wasn't sure whether it was best here

This may be of interest as it was my 1st post and what a rude awakening!
Now it makes me smile

Hi George

Yes I still have it refer to it as 'country' work

It's not worth selling and it reminds me of my first NMB post

It is T001 and my T002 was the one that really started me collecting and I still have that one as well

... There is a reason why I don't post my new acquisitions here, I just take them along to the Royal Armouries and my local To-Ken instead! Genuine experts who criticise and comment on items in hand in a courteous and informative manner.

Does everyone also get a prize there Dave? Or maybe just a hug.
You must be very unsure of your own tastes then. You should be more confident of your choices and not be afraid of opinions. Usually best accomplished by not buying things that are very possibly dodgy. Takes someone with a thick skin to listen to honest and blunt advice and take it to heart. Look how well it served Grev, and what kind of scholar he has become.
Sounds painful to tip-toe around a room trying to find euphemisms to advise someone that their money was not well spent. Oh look...there's one now. ;-)

I have no problems with honest opinions... I certainly get them enough at the Armouries and at the To-Ken. Truthfully there is a lot of good information here, and some very knowledgeable and helpful people,..... and some who are neither! Sometimes the criticism is less of the item and more of the person posting it.

Now consider your own reaction to what is a very mild criticism of the behaviour of some of the people (not yourself by the way) on this forum!

Let's consider your comment shall we? And bear in mind that a person on no salary, running a free forum with people using their hard earned time to assist others, with nothing to gain..may just object to unnecessary criticism.
"Genuine experts who criticise and comment on items in hand in a courteous and informative manner."
So to anyone involved or reading this, what you are indirectly saying is that the people on the forum are:
a) Not genuine experts
b) Not courteous
c) Not informative.
Mild criticism? I don't see it that way, and am starting to tolerate jibes at the forum less and less lately.

I am sorry you took it that way. As I said above, the majority of the people here are both knowledgeable and helpful.

To quote "Truthfully there is a lot of good information here, and some very knowledgeable and helpful people,.."

I shall leave it at that other than to thank you for your hard work maintaining what is a very useful and informative forum.

Dave, there will always be arseholes wherever humans interact, and there will always be some who just rub others up the wrong way.

Your supercilious comment as to why you don't post your pieces here was uncalled for. And frankly speaking, as you seem keen to be blunt, I often feel like not bothering here too....when I read comments like yours. So, touche.

Brian is a personal friend who does a great deal for the collecting community served here for very little thanks, he certainly does not deserve shitty feedback.

Ok, let's assume we all got it off our chest now, and carry on.
I had my say.
Let's rather pile on that little bugger Grev, who started this whole thing 8 years ago knowing full well the commotion it would start in the far future. Instigator! :rotfl:
Glad you stuck it out Grev, you are proof of concept.
And thanks Ford, appreciate it. I've always thought of you as the cannot-do-without, loveable, take-no-nonsense asshole that I strive to be...I have made great progress :glee:

And yes Grev, you made a big progress meanwhile! ( and this is the only thing counting!)

do keep on going!

( Tsuba collectors are scarce....as you do know....)

I am really very conscious of being mostly a spectator here who has recently put forward (tentatively) some pieces for comment - a novice through and through compared to many of the members here with their broad and deep knowledge in the field of tosogu plus their willingness to share.

I need to make something clear here- I almost certainly will never meet any of you, my life is in it's final years, I am not being fawning  but it is just to say and acknowledge how fortunate we all are to be able to participate, mix in a way with the informed minds that make themselves available to us here.

How fortunate are we .

But the above conversation was wonderful to read.  And it made me smile. It can be a real buggar being touchy (what I mean is when the  NMB comments on your tsuba, hurt a bit). I've spent a fair part of my life being touchy so I know of these things.

FYI

Just doing some photography and retook the images of my first tsuba & post

Looking again I see a naive tsuba using nice steel and has been apparently remounted

Grev,
If you'll pardon my bluntness, but to me it is ghastly in a way. :rotfl:
Like someone drawing flowers by drawing an oval, and then pretending there are petals.
BUT...you have lots of other lovely tsuba that I am jealous over...so don't feel bad :)
