lepy1414 Posted August 22, 2019 Report Posted August 22, 2019 Honestly not sure what I have here. I was hoping for some identification and if it drew interest would be willing to sell. I apologize if this is not the place to post for this. -Jake Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 22, 2019 Report Posted August 22, 2019 It appears to be a kai-gunto by Miyaguchi Kunimori. You can search for that name on Google and here on the board to get more information. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/4584-confused-about-kunimori/ 1 Quote
lepy1414 Posted August 22, 2019 Author Report Posted August 22, 2019 Any idea on value in that condition? I cannot imagine it is anywhere near what the estimation on that thread is. Quote
ChrisW Posted August 22, 2019 Report Posted August 22, 2019 The fittings are in rough shape.. I think value depends greatly on the condition and desirability of the blade itself. Depends on what grade of smith this guy was and what the polish of the blade is like.. but it looks pretty scratched up. Is there still a strongly visible hamon? Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted August 23, 2019 Report Posted August 23, 2019 Two problems. First, this shouldn't be posted here in the For Sale section. Should be under Nihonto. Once you've determined a sale price, then post it here. Second, please add your first name on all posts, so we can address you correctly, per Brian's rules. Thanks. Quote
lepy1414 Posted August 23, 2019 Author Report Posted August 23, 2019 Apologies my name is Jake. Quote
lepy1414 Posted August 23, 2019 Author Report Posted August 23, 2019 And as for price I really don't know the title kind of hints that. Quote
ChrisW Posted August 23, 2019 Report Posted August 23, 2019 Well, I couldn't hazard a price myself but if you're willing to talk about cash + trade, I might be your guy! 1 Quote

Stephen Posted August 23, 2019 Report Posted August 23, 2019 Jake Have you read he was a Yasukuni smith? Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 23, 2019 Report Posted August 23, 2019 This is from a previous discussion on Kunimori, quote from Chris Bowen below on this topic:"the Kunimori blades were not made by Miyaguchi, only signed by him. According to his son, who helped hold the blades while his father cut the signatures, they were made in bulk by a smith in Shizuoka prefecture named Mitsukoshi Hiromasa, using western steel. Apparently they were forge welded, but the exact nature of their construction is not known. They were known to have been made of western steel" 2 Quote
lepy1414 Posted August 23, 2019 Author Report Posted August 23, 2019 Stephen and Raymond, after quite a bit of research I was able to reference this previous post on the subject. This previous thread seems to give conflicting viewpoints. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/26182-help-with-miyaguchiikkansai-kunimori-please/ 1 Quote
Stephen Posted August 24, 2019 Report Posted August 24, 2019 I somehow missed all these updates...by the dates it was during my cancer treatment. Sorry for confusion. Quote
