acoyauh Posted August 24, 2017 Report Posted August 24, 2017 Hello, I am being offered a sword that looks gunto to me - nakago file marks, bo-hi, polish, etc. seem gunto. Of course I am no kantei, so any additional feedback will be appreciated. Mei is on one side only, nothing on the other. There does not seem to be an armory stamp or serial numbers, but then again none of the photos show the full nakago... Can you please translate this mei for me? And, if you know any information about it that would be very much appreciated. Thank you! If photo doesn't display, please click its link directly, for some reason it does not seem to show: http://shinnihonto.mx/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/bohi01.jpg Quote
acoyauh Posted August 24, 2017 Author Report Posted August 24, 2017 It does not seem to display, but the link is correct. Please try the direct link I added to see it. Sorry for the inconvenience. Quote
Okiiimo Posted August 24, 2017 Report Posted August 24, 2017 The nakago sure is shiny for an 70-year plus blade! Quote
Jean Posted August 24, 2017 Report Posted August 24, 2017 Nakago files marks (yasurime) are never parallel to the edge and back of the blade. Very crude kanji, I fear the worst.... Edit to say: RUN AWAY FROM IT !!!! 2 Quote
Stephen Posted August 24, 2017 Report Posted August 24, 2017 Made to look Japanese....poorly!!! agree pass on it. 1 Quote
acoyauh Posted August 24, 2017 Author Report Posted August 24, 2017 More likely Chinese than gunto, huh? Thought so... Quote
Brian Posted August 25, 2017 Report Posted August 25, 2017 Don't think it is one, but I have seen a similar nakago on a James Raw (Rawblades) sword.Just check that it isn't, as they are sought after for practice. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 Please provide us with full pictures of the blade as well. Quote
