Moxicity Posted February 14, 2017 Report Posted February 14, 2017 Hello- Looking for help identifying this sword. I figured out it is Kanesada made but also that there are 11 generations of Kenesada. Can anyone help me with a general era or specific Kanesada? Value? Quote
Ray Singer Posted February 14, 2017 Report Posted February 14, 2017 Unfortunately this is a Chinese fake. Among the many other clues (including the way that the mei is carved vs. the way a mei is traditionally cut), note that the sword has an S curve. Best regards, Ray Quote
Moxicity Posted February 14, 2017 Author Report Posted February 14, 2017 I think it's just the photo. The sword isn't an S curve. And I would be very surprised if this were a fake considering where it came from. Certainly unfortunate if it is. I did find an interesting comparison of Kanesada Meis in which this one may fit on the link below. I don't know when the Chinese began making fakes but if this were fake it would be the only one of the hundreds from a well known collection. But it is what it is and I'll rely on the experts. http://www.nihonto.ca/nosada/ Quote
Moxicity Posted February 14, 2017 Author Report Posted February 14, 2017 Also, I found this similar sword that sold at auction a few years ago on icollector.com. They claim it as authentic and i'm wondering who authenticates for them. http://www.icollector.com/Samurai-Sword-by-Kanesada-Muramachi-1500-1600_i17116843 Quote
Ray Singer Posted February 14, 2017 Report Posted February 14, 2017 I am very certain this is fake. As is the other example you shared from icollector.com. Quote
Dr Fox Posted February 14, 2017 Report Posted February 14, 2017 Check the nakago against any Japanese examples you care to look at. The ito wrap on the tsuka all fold the same way, when they should alternate. Stampings on the tsuba are not right. And that habaki? Show some close ups of the blade, and that can also be appraised. But so far its not good. Quote
DGARBUTT Posted February 15, 2017 Report Posted February 15, 2017 absolutely fake, not even close to authentic Dale Quote
Moxicity Posted February 16, 2017 Author Report Posted February 16, 2017 LOL. My father always told me if 2 people tell you're sick, you better sit down. Thank you everyone! Quote
