Daso Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 Using this Tsuba which was on a junk blade, I believe its just a cast fake but what do i need to look at to confirm. Dents look like they were cast Thanks, Darius Quote
ggil Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 From what I recall, the texture of the alloy is the giveaway (among a plethora of other evidence). A forged piece (or traditionally made) will have a finer structure without air pockets like this metal has. Quote

Daso Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 you do destroy!!!!! your´s eyes - if anyhow looking longer onto such a garbage! Very Sorry! Christian I honestly find your approach At touch extreme. I am attempting to learn and is that not what one should feel instead of being ridiculed in very poor english. You are welcome to express your dissatisfaction with my query but i hope ypur bedside manner is better in your day job. I think you made your point clear and thank you for adding flavor to my simple question. Quote
Stephen Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 Darius Darius Darrius, You have just interned the NMB twilight zone it takes years of membership to understand Chris, he means you no ill will, his brand of humor. Sophie Coppola made a movie about it in its title. 3 Quote
Daso Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 Then I apologize for my rant, i try to automatically throw myself on the block when i know I've been naughty in Nihonto (or junk nihonto) land. I try to listen and learn from all here. I know its ugly but didn't expect that 1 Quote
Grey Doffin Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 Hi Darius, Not only the texture of the metal but the metal itself screams fake. Doesn't look like anything a real tsuba would have been made of; looks like some type of pot metal. The dents at the top and bottom of the nakago hitsu-ana shouldn't be of a one with the surrounding metal. They would have been added after the tsuba was made to fit it to a sword and should be different somehow from their surround. The work is crude, cast not carved, and the patina around the flowers looks applied, not naturally accumulated. English isn't Christian's first language; may not be his second or third. In his native (German I believe) I'm sure he comes across like a saint. NMB works best if we all cut everybody else a bit of slack. Cheers, Grey 4 Quote
