tonbo Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 Good day all, I have a very nice 60cm koto wakizashi for sale. This shortened Tachi was polished by Bob Benson and what a success he made. Bob said that the nihonto was probably made by the Tegai Ryu. A new Habaki, Tsuka and saya were made. Tsuba, Menuki, fuchi and kashira are all antique. Although plain plum design, the tsuba has great bones. Bags for the tsuba and sword are also part of this package, as received from Bob. The price for the koto wakizashi will include shipping. Please contact me on tonboalan@gmail.com Thank you Alan Quote
Brian Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 I've seen this sword, and it really is a beauty done exceptionally well by Mr Benson. I advised Alan to post it here on the NMB, as the SA market is a bit flooded after a recent estate sale of plenty of swords, and thought he had a better chance at selling overseas. I discussed a price with him that i thought was fair, and is far down from the original asking price. In fact, probably the cost of the polish itself. But will let Alan post the price..hopefully soon Alan... Brian Quote

Adrian Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 You don't see too often nice koto blades in full polish, with nice koshirae, going for $2000. As a matter of fact I'd say is going to be a while before such a good deal appears again within the$1500-$2000 price range. Quote
Jamie Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Yup good deal. Bob does a great job. Nice koshirae as well. Quote
jason_mazzy Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Wow. I just blew my cash or that would be a purchase. the polish cost is paid right there. Actually it's a horrible deal. don't buy this. Nothing to see here, move along........................ Quote
tonbo Posted March 20, 2015 Author Report Posted March 20, 2015 Thanks so much for your positive replies guys, much appreciated. Is it not funny how human nature is. I had a reply from a reputable German nihonto dealer who wanted even more of a discount. Good luck with that old chap. I am really enjoying the information on this site and I will be purchasing more nihonto for my collection in the not to distant future. I am actually getting into the frame of mind where the more I look at this wakizashi with all the questions that I have been asked from perspective buyers, the MORE i enjoy having it SO..... why sell it????? I looked at the hamon in detail under a 10x magnification glass and WOW, that is all I can say. For the more experienced people on the site you will know precisely what I am talking about. The big question.... WHY SELL IT THEN?? Need to buy a shinken for martial arts and then there is the glock thats waiting for me with my name on it.... Need I say more guys??? hehe Really people, if you want this wakizashi then make a plan, ... possibly take a loan from Grandma if you have to, because this here waki, aint gonna be up for grabs much longer. Ray Singer Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Did Bob feel this was Tegai or Sue-Tegai, nambokucho or later? Quote

Good luck with that old chap. Alan, I think you need to factor in the custom taxes/VAT/whatever and shipping cost. After adding those to your price, there may be little room left for a dealer's profit. I suppose the sword is currently in SA, so there are custom taxes/VAT/whatever to be paid if importing it to the EU. If memory serves (saw it on an old topic) these amount to about 20% when importing nihonto to Germany from non-EU countries. Quote
