  3. Thanks David, I asked because your nakago is in better condition than mine. Regards
  4. Hi David, Would it be possible to get pictures of the full blade and nakago please? All the best
  5. Hi Brian, Could be: Suikosai Kaneaki tsukuru kore wo Japanese Sword Index has an example under Oshigata of Showa swordsmiths
  6. Thank you Steve. Just for interest. Here is a picture of the reverse side. It came with a WW2 Japanese signed flag. All the best
  7. Hi All, Not sure if this is the right section but here goes. Could I please ask for a translation of the pictured Tasuki. I have translated the other side which is a patriotic saying along the lines of "Praying for Long lasting fortune in warfare" Many thanks in advance All the best
  8. Hi Steve, Here is a larger picture.
  9. Thanks Guys, Doing some more searching and found my sword has already been discussed back in 2012 here on the NMB: Again, many thanks for the replies. Regards
  10. Hi All, I've had a go at translating this mei, Nakago is fairly corroded making it difficult especially the date. I've got - Echigo Kuni Ju Imai Sadaroku Tsukuru Kore and a Date of Showa shichi ( I think) How did I do? Your thoughts would be greatly Regards
  11. Best wishes and speedy recovery Brian.
  12. 😲 Wow Dave, Thats a lot of dribble, You must feel it as the blade is put into the saya? Regards
  13. Hi All, I use a saya file that was purchased from Namikawa. I wrap a piece if cotton cloth over the end and clean the inside of the liner, you would be amazed at the crap that comes out. Regards
  14. Great job Brian, Thank you.
  15. On it now Geraint, The new file is now about 20 pages so far with various ships and military history. Regards
  16. Sadly Ray I don't think Roy has his website running now although you can get some of it on Webarchive. I have always kept any thing that comes with the sword whilst I'm the custodian and when it comes to the time to sell, the new owner gets it as well. I'm just amazed that the 10 shilling note is still there after all this time.
  17. Hi Everyone, Hopefully I got this in the right section. I like to keep an information pack with all of my swords (info sheet, pictures of nakago & mei, Tassel and other items that came with the sword). One of my swords in Gunto mounts came with a letter, sword retention slip and a 10 shilling note. The letter is dated 1952 and is between what I presume is the Officer who had the sword and a friend. It includes a 10 shilling note that was monies owed to the officer after winning a bet and the retention slip for the sword which had been found in a draw. Two questions really: How much validity can be placed on things like this that comes with swords? Has anyone else got any interesting paperwork that came with their swords? As always, all comments welcome. Regards
  18. Hi All, Three of mine. 1 - Shinshinto Tanto 2 - Foiled Gunto mounted shinshinto Katana 3 - Shinto wakizashi Regards

Very nice Chris, Always good to see before and after pictures. Regards
  20. Hi Everyone, Hope you are all safe and well. In the boredom of lockdown I wanted to do some more investigation of a Gendiato katana I have. Mei of “Hizen no kami Mitsuhiro”. Was discussed here: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/25709-mitsuhiro-help/ I found an example at Aoi which is NBTHK papered and noticed the nakago end had the same deformed end. I’m looking for comparison mei examples, I have found various examples on the web but would kindly ask if any members have anything? Of the 5 examples I have found, the Mei's are all slightly different. My sword is on the left. Many Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks Paul, I will keep it with the Tanto as I consider it part of the swords history. I'm not to worried about having it re papered as I didn't pay much for it and it just would not make financial sense to send it to Japan. If any Shinsa group ever comes to the UK again I will put it in.
  22. Great topic Paul and very interesting reading. After reading through I remembered a mumei Tanto in my collection that has an NBTHK Kicho paper (white) issued in 1979. The paper attributes the tanto to Aizu Kanetomo (school, I’m assuming). I had sort of forgotten about the paper as I regarded them as not reliable. What are people’s thoughts on NBTHK Kicho (White) papers?
  23. Like it very much Adam, Odd but fascinating. Dave - I think it counts because as you say, not unknown but not common plus it was once in my collection
  24. I wondered what happened to this lot when the said collector passed. This was only the tip of the iceberg of his spares collection.
  25. Hi John, If you are anywhere near the Motorcycle museum this Sunday, The Birmingham arms fair is on, A fair few people from both Token societies visit the show. Regards Mark
