It certainly looks similar! It seems to be a strange way to make a naginata. I noted the blade on Aoi Arts before Ken started his thread on it. If a naginata had a broken tang and one wanted to save the blade for use as a pole arm what options are available? It seems that adding a piece to fit a pole is one. Welding on a new tang is another.

Thanks Eric: Great link to yari and naginata. I think that the nakago of the naginata broke and the piece to allow attaching to a pole was welded on. For those who want to see the naginata it is at the bottom of the page.

Hi Evan: I use several methods for tsuba display. I started by using a piece of rosewood that was about 4X30 and inserting black horn pegs spaced for the tsuba. I purchased individual tsuba stands made of wood and tsuba stands made of plexiglass. I found some plastic pieces that stick to smooth surfaces and have a hook for a tsuba. A friend gave me some lacquer display boards that work well too. Finally I have used an Ikea bookcase full of books. the rails have holes for positioning shelves that I have inserted cut pieces of chop sticks to hand the tsuba from.

This has been extended until the 18th of August.

The hard part is doing nothing. Perhaps a Zen two weeks of quiet and meditation. Wishing you all the best. Slow down, the tortoise won the race....

It seems to be cast to me. Given the number of good tsuba out there I would pass on this one. The key thing for me is seeing the casting lines in photos 719 and 723.

The blade looks to be a good one. Reminds me of Soshu Hasebe, Akihiro etc. Someone thought enough of it to give it a high quality shirasaya.

Save time trouble and money and buy from people on Messageboard. I have bought several and have NEVER been disappointed. I agree people differ in what they personally like. But quality pieces will always find a market. You may not that some people's tsuba sell immediately while others sell after a price reduction or two. Know your seller and what usually happens. I was off-line for a few days came back to learn that I missed three tsuba from a person from whom I have purchased tsuba...Good thing that I am in saving money mode :D
