  1. FYI, Robert is the one from whom I got my Ryokai Juyo and who found a papered koshirae for it with a fantastic wooden lacquered tsuba. And furthermore he is a good friend which is the most important.

    New fittings

Edward, when I indicate someone it is because he is top. Both have access to Japanese top craftsmen who can even get you Juyo kodogu items provided you have the bucks😄😃.

  7. More info on the maker according the Wakayama in 3 volumes: his given date is around 1775 and as his school is directly issued from the AKASAKA school, he is worthy being in the Kinko Meikan where he is rated RYU KO ( a best among the best)
  8. Thanks my friend. I show it this morning at my Flyfishing club to Marc Broquin and here is his answer after looking in his book: YUCHIKUDO NISHIKAWA MASATORA First tsubako/master of SUNAGAWA school, school issued from AKASAKA school. Now, I don’t know his rating
  9. Before posting the batch of tsuba in the sale section, I need a translation of this mei and info on the tsubako
  10. Thanks a lot Geraint. In fact, it is the only tsuba where I could decipher the mei. Most of signed tsuba pictured have very faint/worn mei.
  11. Plus the lacquer box with fans in which they were.
  12. The wave tsuba is rather tanto size. I have just taken pictures of the batch, I will post them in the tsuba section
  13. Yesterday I had lunch with an old friend who brought me a batch of tsuba asking me to sell them. they were in a safe along with ivory netsuke. most of the tsuba are signed, they will be in the For sale section, once their value assessed.
  14. Jean stated all. Without any measurements nothing can be said on this tanto.
  15. Glen, Instead of using unpleasant words, I’d rather use the sentence « this opinion is neither complete nor conclusive » which shows your disagreement and start from this to develop the cons. NMB strongly frowns at people giving other members « birds’ names ».

    School

    I finally got the urapicture
  17. Ray, All the tanto I saw at DTI were sanji mei, I have never seen a niji mei tanto.
  18. Late Darcy wrote something on the subject. There are two distinctive mei. A niji mei (Kunitoshi) and Sanji mei (Rai Kunitoshi), there are theories that it is the same smith. Niji mei work is wilder than the sanji mei one. I have seen quite a number of tanto signed. There are always 3-4 Juyo tanto signed at DTI. I have a doubt, but unfortunately the blade is out of polish Here are a few links to read carefully https://nihonto.com/niji-kunitoshi-二字国俊/ https://markussesko.com/2016/01/ (very interesting)
