  1. I have a need for good swords ... not straight ones.
  2. I don't care much for a bent ...
  3. My answer is maybe. You can not receive a definate answer to this question. It depends on the sword. I would first look at the sword. Simons answer is quite accurate therefore. The question is wheter the sword is worth 15k. Present NBTHK papers are prefered by most collectors / dealers but I would not say that a NTHK-NPO paper is no good. It is an oppinion by someone supposed to have expertice.
  4. Well, I do not think that this is a Shinshinto blade. I would want to think that it is Koto and that someone got something with great potential.
  5. So did this sword sell to someone else then?
  6. Do you have a link to the auction?
  7. The books are still a steal and went way below market prices. Even at 400 Euros shipping you would pay way more in shipping when buying them individually from Japan or the USA.
  8. this uaction hous eis nuts on shipping. A 5 kg DHL parcel from Germany to the Netherlands is less than 20 Euros. They asked for 120 in shipping. Make for 100 Euros in packing ...
  9. Nice Higo Tsuka ... Swor dis probably Shinto periode. If the Mei is good it is a nice setup. I also like the Tsuba. Will need some good cleaning though. Tanto is probably Sue Koto. Your images are too small to say much.
  10. Helo Steven, thanks for your thoughts!
  11. Hello, thank you for your thoughts. I must confess that I have little knowledge on Tsuba and would not have estimated those to be in troubelsome condition but for a missing inlay on the Tiger Tsuba. So thank you for your thoughts and best regards
  12. Hello Pete at 3k for the whole lot i think it is reasonable
  13. No I would not and am not.
  14. You have to apply sort of a modiefied Lasswell formula: Who sells what to whom in which chanell / market with what intention ... If it is a big name from a big dealer without paper => Error If it is a small name without paper => Reasonable If it is a big name from a none professional => I do not know. Everything possible ...
  15. THis was a nice Tsuba Lot recently on floor auction. No famous maker as far as I could see but that Tsuba with a carp was very enjoyable imho
  16. Hello Logan, well there are plenty of good polishers in the USA but it would cost USD 200.00 + to open a window and usually if you decide to not polish it, that cost will be lost. If somebody does an acid wash on a Nihonto then he knows enough to be dangerous. So what he saw after the wash rathe rmade him sell the blade than keep it. That person was not an unexpirienced seller. Also since you mentiom that there are Kizu that is another reason to let it go. Sometimes you can polish them out but most of the time they will get worse during polishing.
  17. Hello Logan, well if not weleded - Atleast I can not see a potential welding line on tehg Munemachi - then you might get a window done. Howevere all of this is probably only worth it, if the blade is pre Muromachi. As far as I am concered O can npt say whetere Muromachi or Nambokucho ... my gut feeling tends towards Muromachi with that Notare Hamon.
  18. Hm, looking at the top / Munemachi it does not look wleded but there are some akward redish looking spots towards the blade that remind me of welding. Anyway this does not look good at all. 1st of all it would have to be determined wheter this has been welded. If welded then disgard the blade. If not welded it is still ugly and little that can be done about it in the area. Unles it is a good qualit pre Muromachi blade you should neglect it.
  19. Looks like a Shinto Kanbun piee and quite solid
  20. I have to agree to the others observations! THhis may have been indeed been welded on. If this is the case then the blade is dead.
  21. I bought it in rough shape and sent it for polishing. That the Nagako looks a bit odd is mainly due to some having take bad care of the blade. The blade must have been badly rust at some pint and someone then took it to a grinding wheel and a dremel to remove the rust. I think it sued to be a Naginata from the Nambokucho periode
  22. Well, this seller has some lets say goofy stuff. I think that those Menuki are not of good quality.
  23. HEllo, I think it is an interesting look piece and I would want to hink that it is Koto. Either Nambokucho or Muromachi. I tend towards Muromachi. I wouldn't worry about the acid wash ... atleast you now know where you are at. Boshi is still healthy. What is a bit worrysome is that the Shinogi Gi does look rounded. It will need a good foundation polish to fix this but should work out. The down side is the condition of the tang and this can't be fixed. Also you will notice that there is a dip near the Hamachi. This sword has seen a lot of modification in its geometry. If it is wortyh of a polish I can't say.
