@ Chris, no I do not think that there is fire damage. "Just" poor condition due to corrosion. @ Florian: Thank you for your remarks and pointing out the missing Kiku blossom! I had missed this. I suppose this is just a simple work in poor condition then. Whetter the inlays got lost or did not get ever added in the 1st place is to remain unknown. The disappointing result is however the same in the end

Hello Robert, thank you. I had seen that, too. The tokkotsu on mine and on Grey's seem to be different. Otherwise a good match. Here's a link to Andy's http://nihonto.us/AKASAKA%20BIRDS%20EM.htm I will try to catch up with better images and dimensions soon.

Thank you again -
I have this Heijano Tsuba and wonder if it is an earlier Type and if the some of the inlay work is missing or wheter it was supposed to be tht way in the first place?
-
Yes, I was interested in it for the possible purpose of a Daisho set while the otehr one unfortunately had fire damage and this was basically worthless. A shame. I will provide additional images soon. Yes Christoph it is about 7.7 cm in diameter. I am not knowledgeable on Tsuba but my impression was that this is an early generation Akasaka and a rather quality one. The tekkotsu in this tsuba looks very good in my oppinion. Thank you for our thoughst and i hope that better images and measuremenst may shed more light into this Tsubas classification.

-
Hello Grev, so you think it is fist of all a late Edo periode pieces? Did Robert Haynes also give you his oppinion on yours?
-
Hello Jean, yes it could be possible indeed but I am not sure. Thanks for your thoughts! They may look a bit blury in my images, the cariving is however indeed very nice with good details
-
Hello Grev, thank you very much! Indeed very similar! What is your take on the Tsuba? While it must not be connected, the Fuchi/Kashira on teh associated Koshirae seem to be Hizen
