All,

those that have missed the debate, the regular end of the year NMB Raffle is a problem due to the fact that Paypal will not allow any form of a raffle to take place. That leaves us with no easy way to accept funds and spoils what was always a bit of fun for the members at the end of the year.

I have tried to think of ways around it, but nothing comes to mind that won't risk my entire PP account.

So one thing that was suggested involves some form of a fund raising auction. Although I am not crazy about an idea that only benefits those who can bid the most...it does seem to be one option.

However, this would hinge purely on the items that we can offer to auction off. I don't think the standard entry level books will do it for an auction. What we need is a few nice items that can appeal to all levels of collectors here. However getting people to donate good stuff isn't easy..so I thought of maybe doing a few auction items, where the contributor shares the proceeds with the NMB..maybe 20% (NMB)/80 or 40/60 or 50/50 or whatever. Donator gets the bulk of the funds and a percentage to the NMB? This would work if we had some nice items. Maybe list 5 to 10 items for a month, and people openly place their bids.

Haven't given this too much thought, so any suggestions, and especially tentative offers of items to be auctioned would be great. I won't hold you to them until we decide how to proceed. This would work nicely for fittings, higher end books, prints, and even an entry level blade or 2. How about services? A discount on tsukamaki or a discount off items on a website?

So..hit me with your thoughts, insults or problems :)

Sounds good = I am sure most of us have "something" that is gathering dust and may as well be auctioned off for charity and a small return for the donor.

That said I wouldn't think that anyone would expect to come out ahead on the donation  What you get in an auction is what you get . Don't try to sell your favourite bit of Nihonto to make a buck :doubt:

Auction would be great.....I have items I would donate...

How about a dealer membership with fee to advertise, post for sale items, etc.? Seems there are people selling here regularly.....

Dear Brian,dear all,

O.K.-i read a bit of what was this topic since a couple of days.

There may be several options-for those who really are interested of course-not those we all do know and who just try to save expenses in/on cost of "Easyness".

In this case-several consequences had to be done,as otherwise this whole thematics would arise sooner or later again(of couse).

Mine first question now.

Does there exist an banc account-which is verifyable!- where there´s possibility so to transfer an certain ammount?

(BIC,SWIFT-Code)

An "Firefighter" so to evade PayPal.

Equally i would like to know if this "PROBLEM" is just an momentanum-or is this an regular problem which just was pushed forward(perhaps regularely in hope and thrust) so to neglect the objective facts having "ben there" since longer time?

Generally spoken:

An auction would be an very nice thing i think-at least mineself would donate volontarily!

Dear Rich,

to be very honest-i do not know, but i could imagine....

It´s in mine eyes-either-so it may make not much differences-there,but,may be an reason which i personally do not know.

I think,it would however be appropriate so to know an banc-account.

Christian,

I could, of course, supply a bank account. But with the foreign exchange controls here in South Africa, the fees would probably be more than the contribution. And I would probably have to explain where it came from and pay tax :?

Paypal is always easiest.

This isn't a crisis. If no-one contributes..we will survive. It merely comes from the fact that at the end of every year we usually have a fund raiser to try and cover some of the costs of hosting etc. Usually a raffle, but that is a problem this year as explained. This isn't an urgent appeal for donations, and there is no crisis. Just the usual appeal as we reach the end of yeat another hard year.
