Stephen Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 been looking around for info on this smith, anything other than just war time Seki smith, thanks for your time if you have anything. Quote
Stephen Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 hummm. must be just wartime Seki showato smith. Thanks anyway. Quote
k morita Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Hi, Is it Koketsu Kanekami Kanetaka that you say? 纐纈兼上 Quote
Stephen Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Morita san the last two kanji are same. i do not have way to type the Noshu Seki the mei looks like this without the first name http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/kanekami.jpg Quote
k morita Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hi, "Koketsu" is his surname. He was a pupil of Watanabe Kanenaga. 1 Quote
Brian Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 That looks like a well signed nakago. Did he do Gendaito or only Showato? I know the Seki smiths generally didn't have a great reputation for quality? Brian Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 While not listed in the Gendai Toko Meikan, being a student of Watanabe Kanenaga, I would bet he did gendaito and probably decent quality. Quote
k morita Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hi, Yes, Nakago(tang) finished very well. Because it is a work exhibited to the sword-exhibition in 1940. Quote
Stephen Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 Chris is very quite on this...LOL he must know its on ebay, ends today, id give a link but i might make a run at it. Quote
David Flynn Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Stephen, the one on ebay is Katana Mei. The one here is Tachimei. Also the one on ebay is signed Noshu Seki Kanekami, and the yasurimei doesn't look as good. Quote
Stephen Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 Divid i see what your saying but i might gamble, see his teachers mei and his Kane are very much alike with feet the same way, http://www.nihonto.us/WATANABE%20KANENA ... NDAITO.htm if half the quality id be a happy camper. Quote
cabowen Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Chris is very quite on this...LOL he must know its on ebay, ends today, id give a link but i might make a run at it. It's a Seki blade.....my opinion on Seki blades should be clear by now.... And if I had known it was on active auction, I wouldn't have said anything anyway.... Best of luck! Quote
Stephen Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 Chris Over the years ive come to respect your opinon with high regard and know how you feel about Seki smiths, do you feel the same about his sensei such as i posted, not Andys blade but the Kanenaga den? Quote
cabowen Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Of course there were talented smiths in Seki during the war, and Watanabe Kanenaga was certainly one of them, along with Kanehide. There were a few others as well but the percentage of good to bad is so low in Seki that it is much easier to just ignore them all.....Additionally, I have never been a fan of the sanbonsugi hamon....it makes me sleepy. But as has been said, to each his own...... Quote
Stephen Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 I have never been a fan of the sanbonsugi hamon LOL know what you mean but to me it makes me seasick. Quote
