Spartancrest Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 (edited) I think this is a type with "crepe ishime" - there is a proper term in Japanese but I don't have it handy. These seem to be from a school that specialized in this decoration, designs vary a lot but there are many examples where the piercing shifts position around the plate. I have been collecting images of these for some time and note there are two main styles - one with the seppa-dai and hitsu outlined and the other where the ishime is not "contained" Here are three with the same "gumbai" piercing design. If you can find another they make a great daisho! [My "daisho" with a different pierced design.] Edited May 11 by Spartancrest More images 1 Quote
Hokke Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 Another variation in texture, This is one out of the Haynes catalogue described as a Saga tsuba, ito sukashi work. 3 Quote

Spartancrest Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 Other patterns: https://www.jauce.com/auction/f1229523918 https://tsubashi.com/product/katchushi-style-tsuba/ https://tsubashi.com/product/signed-katchushi-style-tsuba/ and this one with no borders https://tsubashi.com/product/a-fine-saotome-tsuba/ [I am not confident with the sellers attribution ] - but he has found the ishime term - chirimen-amidayasuri 1 Quote
MauroP Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 I have seen this texture pattern described in NBTHK papers as 阿弥陀石目地 - amida-ishime-ji, 花弁阿弥陀鑢地 - kaben-amida-yasuri-ji, 変り阿弥陀鑢地 - kawari-amida-yasuri-ji or 日足縮緬地 - hiashi-chirimen-ji. 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 Yes, it is a simple form of AMIDA YASURI, but not ISHI ME (stone surface). 1 Quote

Spartancrest Posted May 15 Report Posted May 15 An interesting take on the design please note the fan sukashi has been enlarged for kozuka or kogai. A little crudely executed? https://www.jauce.com/auction/1123954297 1 1 Quote
Jake6500 Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 Isn't this surface sometimes referred to as "boar-hair" pattern? 2 Quote

Jake6500 Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 I have looked it up and I in fact am NOT crazy lol It's called Inoshishi-no-ke (boar-hair lines) because the pattern mimics the coarse fur of a wild boar... Stop gaslighting me thread!! I'm not crazy I swear 2 Quote
