Grey Doffin Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Hi guys, Can anyone help with the 1st 4 Kanji? I know it's Kanetsugu but the rest stumps me. Anyone know who he was? Quite a nice gunto in Kai-gunto koshirae, belongs to a friend who asked me to help. Thanks, Grey Quote

Nobody Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 The family name is Imai (今井). So, the mei means Imai Kanetsugu in Gunma. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 Thank you. Anyone ever heard of him? He did a very nice (for a gunto) small crab claw choji on this blade. Grey Quote
george trotter Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Grey, I had a quick look....he is listed in Hawley Kan 2714 and Toko Taikan p.95, Slough P.71. Imai Kensaburo...he won 3rd seat 1941 and was Rikugun Jumei Tosho (star stamp) You'll find him on the link above on Ohmura's Military Sword Site (in Japanese though). he was born c.1894...died 1971. he studied under Kiribuchi Kanetomo and first signed Tomoyuki. Studied under Kasama Shigetsugu...probably at the Denshjo in 1930s. Nice looking nakago and mei...what's the blade like...any pics? Regards, George. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi George, Sorry, no pictures of the blade, just the pix of the soot and tape oshigata he brought by. Small crab claw choji, either mu-ji or not enough in polish to show hada, nice Kai-gunto koshirae. Thanks for the note. Grey Quote
