jdawg221 Posted May 27, 2022 Report Posted May 27, 2022 Got this antique tsuba off ebay for 35 bucks. Wondering if you guys can give me anyt details about it, like school or time period. Diameter is around 68mm, thickness is around 4-5mm Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 This Tsuba doesn’t quite fit with anything I know for sure, so it goes into my mental ‘nebulous’ box. That is probably what the owner felt and why it was so cheap. My first Tsuba purchases started like this. Can we see some Sasa low bamboo leaves on one side, and rocks with a propped-up pine branch on the other? Quote
Spartancrest Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 One in the Cleveland Museum of Art, number 1919.377 - very similar. And another from my files 'Utsushi'. These are a little more elaborate - none are signed so attribution is difficult. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 Mr jdawg’s Tsuba has a relatively flat surface, though. 1 Quote
vajo Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 Its a simple late Edo period wakizashi iron tusba for a poor ashigaru samurai. 1 Quote
