MarcoUdin Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Not sure if this topic has come up before, but why is this IJN soldier carrying an army gunto? Did the navy have the choice to carry shin gunto or Kai gunto? Picture is from Rikusentai by Austin Adachi 2 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Special Navy Landing Forces used both Navy & Army swords. 2 Quote
MarcoUdin Posted March 20, 2022 Author Report Posted March 20, 2022 Didn't think about that, thanks John Quote

sbf Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Definitely Navy. Note he has cartridge pouches and a bayonet, so he is actually armed with a rifle. The sword might be a studio prop. Steve 2 Quote
Dave R Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 I don't see a bayonet, but I do see a hanging strap on the left side that might be the gurometto or sword hanger. The leather ones seem to have lost the clip on the end on more than one occasion. I reckon Shanghai Naval Landing Force, especially with the armoured car in the background. Quote
