sencho Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 here it is by picture... I have been watching this one for a while, Stephen.... The Koshirae already has a long wakazashi in it. It is a lovely IMO habaki,.... SAYAGATA pattern.... I think it is a modern made one, but I may be wrong..... I wonder if Big Mo knows who made it? Thanks for the posting the link Cheers Quote
sencho Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 by the way.... for anyone who doesn't know, the above picture is courtesy of Moses Beccera at http://www.nihontoantiques.com Cheers Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 I wonder if Big Mo knows who made it? Thanks for the posting the link Cheers There are only 2 modern habaki makers that know how to make this pattern, Brian Tschernega and his teacher. regards, Franco Quote
sencho Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 Hi Franco, Thanks for that.... where are these makers located... do they have websites or any info anywhere?? Cheers Quote
Brian Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Oh my goodness. I am one that believes the fittings should never overshadow the blade, but that is mind-numbingly beautiful to me I am in love with that habaki. The work is stunning, and contrasts amazingly with the shakudo. Wow..just wow. Brian Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Hi Franco, Thanks for that.... where are these makers located... do they have websites or any info anywhere?? Cheers Brian is on the west coast. No website, but you can find contact info thru http://www.JapaneseSword.com Franco Quote

Bungo Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 all this time it's infront of me......................... milt The ronin Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I haven't been following this thread for a bit but was rather surprised when I saw my wakizashi as the basis for habaki-lust! I believe it was made by Tschernega (although I'm not 100% sure) and the blade has a beautiful hada also. It's a very nice piece. Quote
Bungo Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 nowadays it doesn't take much to set off the " lust "............ milt The ronin Quote
sencho Posted December 25, 2006 Author Report Posted December 25, 2006 I won't have to go far then Pete if I want that wak!!! Actually the habaki is the one... I want to get one made for my wak whcih is sporting the sayagata/raimon k/f already.... what is the price on something like that I wonder?? Lust??? I was a dribbly mess..... and I am not talking about the shochu Milt!!! Nice chest by the way! Cheers Quote
Gaijin Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 Hi! Here is another example of patterns. Quote
Bungo Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 that's not the pattern but surely we'll break page 7 ........I see that in ceramics a lot. milt The ronin Quote
sencho Posted December 25, 2006 Author Report Posted December 25, 2006 The lower left pattern is a Raimon style.... a very organised and tight Raimon pattern but Raimon all the same..... nice Quote
Martin Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 that's not the pattern but surely we'll break page 7 I bet we do Here is a nice one that was part of an auction that recently took place in Germany. Cheers, Martin Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 Hi Sencho -- yes, I guess we are neighbors (when you are in town that is)! Mo has that up on consignment but if you are interested in having a habaki made he could arange it I'm sure. Brian is much in demand and I am certain there is a wait for his work but you could ask Mo @ http://www.nihontoantiques.com Quote
sencho Posted December 25, 2006 Author Report Posted December 25, 2006 Hi Pete (neighbor!) Merry Christmas... hope you're having a relaxing time.... We are in town for a few months now.... I definitely will enquire with Mo about that... 7 pages here we come... the thread that will not go quietly.... much more of this and Brian will lock the bloody thing...... By the way Martin.... that looks awesome.... A full SAYAGATA throughout.... do the rest of the fittings match too and are there any more pictures of it?.. especially the f/k.... what did it go for?.... I am bummed i missed it!! cheers Quote
Martin Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 Hi Sencho, the fittings were part of a sword that did not sell at the auction. Maybe you can still get it if you´re interested. But I don´t really remember the blade... Anyway, here is the link to the auction (unfortunately no english language available): http://www.klefisch.com/index.php?page_ ... temid=2550 Cheers, Martin Quote
Brian Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 much more of this and Brian will lock the bloody thing Now why would I want to do that? :D For a change we are actually having a running thread that is fairly on topic and although it diverted a bit from the original post..is informative and interesting. I won't lock it..I'll encourge it! :D Carry on..and if it stays on topic it won't get locked. Brian Quote
