kissakai Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 Can anyone help with this mei? Maybe something like 董重 Shige? 日 It may be Akasaka circa 1700 Yatsuhashi bridge and Iris although iris looks a bit dodgy Quote
kissakai Posted November 18, 2021 Author Report Posted November 18, 2021 That must be the quickest reply ever - thanks I'll check it out Quote
kissakai Posted November 18, 2021 Author Report Posted November 18, 2021 Maybe Shigeuji H08534 - Choshu hagi, nagato Family = Kanda H08535 Takata in Echigo province Shoami So neither is Akasaka! With the thicker rim I'm leaning towards Shoami but you may know better Quote
kissakai Posted November 19, 2021 Author Report Posted November 19, 2021 Has this come to dead end already? Quote
Shugyosha Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 I thought maybe Tosa Myochin from the Akasaka look but heavier design. Not sure I can say more than that though. Quote
Bazza Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 Well, unless my late night blinkers are still on (hic!) this looks nice if a little rustique! The small kogai hitsu suggests OLD to me??? I like the tsuba and perhaps the mei will always be 'intriguing'. BaZZa. 1 Quote
kissakai Posted November 20, 2021 Author Report Posted November 20, 2021 Looks like an unknown maker Quote
kissakai Posted November 20, 2021 Author Report Posted November 20, 2021 I think Tosa Myochin is not a bad call but the hitsuna doesn't appear to fit and is it older than this school? There is also that heavy worked mimi Quote
Shugyosha Posted November 20, 2021 Report Posted November 20, 2021 As an alternative Bazza’s “rustic” suggestion might not be a bad one. Some likeness to mainline schools but not quite all there. One of the “country” workshops might also explain why the maker isn’t listed. Anyhow, a good sturdy tsuba with great tekkotsu - plenty to like. 1 Quote
