Bugyotsuji Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 You've got better eyesight than I... :| isnt the 6 kanji down another version of mitsu....3 horizontal lines Steve Apologies. Yes, there is a character for three there, but I thought you were referring to something in that tiny second photograph! Your date inscription seems to read (?) 明和二十年三月 Meiwa 20, the third month. Meiwa only lasted for 8 years though... Quote
loiner1965 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 thank you for the date reading as i am only learning to read kanji at the moment so am abit slow.....any views on the smith Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Steve, Do you have a bigger pic? 899 bytes is just to small, even exploded 400%. John Quote
Brian Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Rotated the nenki pic to prevent lawsuits over twisted necks :D Agree it looks like Meiwa, which wouldn't be possible. The chippy kanji look Showato to me..WW2? Upload a larger pic, the mei one looks like a thumbnail. You can just edit your original post, delete the incorrect one and upload a new one if you like. Brian Quote
loiner1965 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 sorry john....new pics submitted as my pc is having a blonde moment....bit confused as meiwa period is approx 1770 and the tang looks newer with another stamp which cannot be a arsenal stamp unless added later.... Quote
