remzy Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Here are my humble shishi fittings for you to see Mr hennick, the menuki are a bit strange, the metal is very tin and the middle support is gone, maybe these were used as a cigaret pouch clasps at some point? im not certain about the quality... but the metal looks like brass. I do not know much about the tsuba but I love the it alot. http://i41.tinypic.com/2icbqqx.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/301n480.jpg The tsuba is wakizashi sized, i have shown it here in the past a while ago, excuse the redundancy if youve already seen it. http://i44.tinypic.com/2v2bp1t.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/vpcaky.jpg Quote
Jean Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Dreadfull pictures of my Naoe Sizu mounting (forgive me) Tsuba Aizu shoami Goto shakudo menuki Kinko F/H shishi with waterfall Quote
remzy Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Very nice full shishi mount there Jean Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Hi Jean, Here is a very similar tsuba I have. Aizu-shoami 会津正阿弥. As well as a Mito-kinko 水戸金工 with similar theme. I've discussed this before, thinking Aizu and Mito being neighboring han may have had a cross pollination of workmanship. These suaka menuki of shishi led to a discussion of whether they had a Goto influence. Certain characteristics are lacking and have never been attributed. John Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Nice set Jean. May I ask who made the Tsukamaki ? Quote
Jean Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 All details are given hereunder : F/K : coming from a friend Menuki : http://www.cgfinearts.com/select_produc ... alleryID=4 Futato koromono : from Aoi Art - Gimei, probably Kinko, splendid work Tsuba : coming from Seikeido The koshirae was entirely made by my friend J-C Dusehu in Le Havre, including tsukamaki. Ted Tenold Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Here's a pair I own, currently in Shinsa. My thought is along Yokoya though. Very high relief work. Quote
Rich T Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Here are some mid Muromachi Ezo menuki I own, they are quite small and for a tanto in the Aikuchi style mounting I believe. cheers Rich Quote
Mark Green Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Guys, Here is my one nice Shishi F&K. I don't know squat about fittings, What do you guys think. Mark G Quote
Mark Green Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Geeze, In my close up pic I see a bit if copper rust going on. What do I need to clean these up with?? Thanks for any help! Mark G Quote
Mark Green Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Another pic. Not a very cute shishi. Mark G Quote
Bungo Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Mark, I am not totally convinced your f/k set is a matching set. Shishi, by convention, usually is associated with peony, not prunus as in your case. milt Quote
Mark Green Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I guess that could be so. here is the back side. Looks like some sort of daisy flower added in there also. Mark G Quote
docliss Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I am afraid that I must agree with Milt - additionaly the fuchi has a clear nanako base, while the kashira is ishime. John L. Quote
Mark Green Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Nothing to be afraid of bro, Like I said, I don't know poo about fittings. Still nice art work though. The art on some of these tiny things is just amazing. Here is my best set. I'm pretty sure these are a match. Mark G Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Geeze, In my close up pic I see a bit if copper rust going on. What do I need to clean these up with?? Thanks for any help! Mark G That is copper alloy showing through, not rust, the problem is someone already mistakenly cleaned these fittings, most likely with some sort of tarnish cleaner. Originally the base finish should have been a black shakudo. Quote
Mark Green Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Well that sucks! Do you think my castle scene F&K were cleaned in that way as well? Mark G Quote
