“ロロロ守谷宗光作之” (???Moritani Munemitsu kore wo tsukuru) (ロロロ = not translated yet)

“昭和十九年六月日” (June Sōwa 19 = 1944)

ロロロ... but I guess “於三島”

Kai Gunto?

Yessir i believe it is now. Naval correct? Just trying to figure out maker. Cant figure out first name for Musemitsu. Does that put it in gendai category? Thanks for your help.

Kai Gunto with later war fittings. This looks to be Gendaito, or traditionally made sword from Tamahagane. Not sure what you paid but you got a great example of a genuine Gendaito in Naval Kai Gunto mounts.

Its a nice sword. Matt please handle it with care. Don't lay it on hard stone or the ground. Took sword pillows. Clean your blade with uchiko or 99% isopropanol and oil it with choji or tsubaki oil.

I would also say this does not need to be polished, it appears to be in good condition as is. Just follow the advice above and wipe it down with tissue paper and small amount of good quality mineral oil
