Caracal Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 Hello All, This katana is made by Izumi Dai jo Masamitsu Edo period. He was a Shin Shinto blacksmith from Aki today Hiroshima province (correct me if I am wrong) I want comments about the blacksmith and the sword. Was he a famous blacksmith or a moderate blacksmith What can one appreciate the value of this sword (on the pictures only). Old polishing but in good condition. Grateful for any answers. // Robert 2 1 Quote
vajo Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 The pictures are small robert but it looks like a nice sword. Quote
Geraint Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 Dear Robert. As Chris points out it is very difficult to say anything about the sword from these images. It appears to be a nice Shinshinto sword in koshirae, it seems ubu, signed and dated. The smith is not famous as far as I can see but the work looks good from what you have sent us. Is this a sword you are thinking of buying? Happy Christmas. Quote
Caracal Posted December 25, 2020 Author Report Posted December 25, 2020 Hello It is on auction for 2300 usd with old NBTHK paper kicho... // Robert Quote
Geraint Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 Well, that seems very reasonable to me but if it is an auction I would expect it to go for more than that. Let us know how this works out. All the best. Quote
Ooitame Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 Hmm... nakago doesn't look right. Also see active rust spots on the blade; could be the picture or just my old eyes . As said before better pictures would help. Quote

Caracal Posted January 7, 2021 Author Report Posted January 7, 2021 Thanks for all the information about the sword. I have one more question. To this sword comes a certificate for Koshirae or saya, can anyone look at what is written regarding the certificate. How should I read the certificate? There is a separate certificate for Tsuba // Robert Quote
