kissakai Posted September 1, 2020 Report Posted September 1, 2020 Hi I have two very recent acquisitions and 'd like a bit of education which are in two separate posts Uwe has already given me some advice which I hope I've shown correctly I have contacted David Thatcher but his workload is massive! Hanbo The "han-bô" is of the "saru-bô" type (monkey cheeks). These kind of face masks had no nose guard, unlike me-no-shita men (or short "menpo"). The han-bô bears some age and might be dated back to the early/mid Edo period. Hard to tell, if it was once lacquered?! Although the pictures suggesting, that the tare don´t belong to the mask, it fits quite well in terms of colour and shape (the first lame is a bit short though). My questions: Should it have the minimum restoration or left alone If restored what needs to be done Any other information will be of great help to me Quote
kissakai Posted September 2, 2020 Author Report Posted September 2, 2020 I am a little surprised that I've had no replies to my two posts I have had an insightful PM about the kabuto and this post can now be considered closed Back to the hanbo Just one question. Does anyone have an image showing the correct tare? Quote
kissakai Posted September 2, 2020 Author Report Posted September 2, 2020 Couldn't resist! Help! The Beatles Help, I need somebody Help, not just anybody (a katchu collector) Help, you know I need someone, help When I was younger, so much younger than today I never needed anybody's help in any way But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors Help me if you can, I'm feeling down 1 Quote

Does anyone have an image showing the correct tare? Hi Grev, unfortunately, there is no such a thing like “correct” tare in this sense. Different types of tare are possible. The only question left is, does it fit or does it not fit? Quote
Shugyosha Posted September 2, 2020 Report Posted September 2, 2020 Hi Grev, Any chance you can add the details from the PM to the kabuto thread? I'd be interested to read the comments. Quote
kissakai Posted September 2, 2020 Author Report Posted September 2, 2020 Hi John When I get a PM it is because the sender doesn't wish to appear on the main MNB page so really it has to be confidential Sorry Quote
Iekatsu Posted September 22, 2020 Report Posted September 22, 2020 Hello Grev, The Tare is likely not original and actually looks like it could be re-purposed lames from Gessan, it is unlikely that it was a period alteration. Quote
kissakai Posted September 22, 2020 Author Report Posted September 22, 2020 I agree 'T'. The one I saw in an auction was fan shaped so it is a repurposed gessan Quote
