Ray Singer Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 Almost nothing I love more than a challenging mei, the more corroded and indistinct the better, but I have gone as far as I can with this one. A few possibilities I toyed with below. Would appreciate any additional suggestions the group may have. I unfortunately don't have any additional photos that will provide guidance. 秀義 重義 秀重 Kind regards, Ray Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 8, 2020 Author Report Posted May 8, 2020 I will add that the obvious suspects based on the appearance of the first kanji, ie. Senjuin and Tegai, would not work or make sense here. Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 8, 2020 Author Report Posted May 8, 2020 A friend just suggested 玉 for the first kanji, or if not 王. Quote
ChrisW Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 Would a rubbing bring out any indistinct qualities here? 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 8, 2020 Author Report Posted May 8, 2020 Would do so if the blade was in hand, but unfortunately just have this photo to work from. Quote
uwe Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 At first glance, I also thought “Naga” for the second!? Will have a closer look this evening.... 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 8, 2020 Author Report Posted May 8, 2020 I am definitely liking 長 as the best option for kanji 2. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 Hmmm... backing away from Shigé now towards Hidé for the first Kanji. (No central upright below.) 秀長 ??? Quote
