Mark Posted June 25, 2019 Report Posted June 25, 2019 I have a shinsakuto sword that is named Silver Willow Leaves using the kanji 銀柳葉, Would anyone know, or ever heard, of a sword with this name? I am wondering if it is a copy of an older sword by that name or if he named it based on his perception of it's appearance. Would this name have any special meaning in Japanese other that a literal leaf? any thoughts or ideas appreciated. thanks Mark Quote
ChrisW Posted June 26, 2019 Report Posted June 26, 2019 Would love to see some pictures of it! 2 Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 26, 2019 Report Posted June 26, 2019 Yanagi minus the 'gin' appears often with respect to swords and certain ryu. I haven't read about a meito with such a name, but, there is a type of Chinese sword called a willow leaf sword and there are Japanese willow leaf spearheads and arrowheads. It could be a name someone had inscrbed as a personalisation. Pics would be a help. John Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 26, 2019 Report Posted June 26, 2019 Sometimes the name is very literal (shape of blade, hamon, keenness of edge) or completely whimsical. If it's modern I would take it all with a grain of salt. Quote
Mark Posted June 26, 2019 Author Report Posted June 26, 2019 Chris Blade is currently being polished so don't have it for pictures John & John thanks for the comments mark Quote
