Peter Bleed Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 Anybody at all interested in straight grain should take a look at the Mumei katana offered this morning by Tsuruta-san, https://www.aoijapan.com/img/sword/2019/19159-2.jpg A very interesting sword and a great example of late masame hada. Vermithrax16 Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 I looked at this one for a while. Hate to be negative and I could be wildly wrong but in boshi snd start of hamon near the machi, the flow seems unnatural. Almost etched like. There is no side light hamon pic included in the ad, which I find curious, hence the points I made before. I would need a real light picture of this sword for a full opinion. 2 Quote
Peter Bleed Posted June 3, 2019 Author Report Posted June 3, 2019 Maybe I was a bit too gushy. Still, this is a interesting blade and certainly interestingly presented. The relationship between the ha-tetsu and the ji-tetsu is - well - marked. The word "strident" comes to mind. And certainly, the hada is aggressively presented. Still, I think it is worth looking at if only because it can be seen. And I can't help but point out that this is Mito, not Sendai. Peter Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 Mito, certainly not Norikatsu (Tokkatsu, Tokukatsu) but maybe Masakatsu the 2nd, with a little enhancement help. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 4, 2019 Report Posted June 4, 2019 We have come full circle, the Japanese are now replicating the chinese damascus fakes! Quote

ROKUJURO Posted June 4, 2019 Report Posted June 4, 2019 John, you could indeed say so if this was a GENDAITO. Is that the case? 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 4, 2019 Report Posted June 4, 2019 John, you could indeed say so if this was a GENDAITO. Is that the case? It's Edo period, but perhaps the Togishi was inspired..... Quote
