IJASWORDS Posted February 23, 2019 Report Posted February 23, 2019 I have been extremely envious of some of the photography that appears on the forum, and commercial sites like Raymond Singers and Ed Marshals. I am trying a different device. So comments on the photos and the sword are welcome. Sword is early 1940's (Mano) Masayasu, Gendaito no date no stamps, in special order koshirae. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 23, 2019 Report Posted February 23, 2019 Neil, getting there but still quite blurry, I would suggest a tripod or some method of stabilization. Dark background is good. Quote
IJASWORDS Posted February 23, 2019 Author Report Posted February 23, 2019 Tripod.... good idea. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted February 24, 2019 Report Posted February 24, 2019 Neil, if you are using an SLR camera, rather than a phone, try using a polarizing filter to remove extraneous reflections. But it's really the lighting & positioning that will yield the best results. Shooting outdoors, in muted (cloudy) sunlight may be your best bet. 1 Quote
Guido Posted February 24, 2019 Report Posted February 24, 2019 ..., try using a polarizing filter to remove extraneous reflections. Unfortunately they only work with light reflected from a non-metallic surface - you don't really think physics/nature would make taking photos of nihontō that easy for us? 2 Quote
Ooitame Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Yes, some great shots by members here. I have also been trying to get good photos. I just have a cell phone, but am playing with different lights, light angles, and camera angles. Best of luck! 2 Quote

I just have a cell phone, but am playing with different lights, light angles, and camera angles. Best of luck! I got better results (not Ray, Darcy, or Ed level) by making sure I had the camera phone in focus but based on a stack of books or other stationary setting. Then you can use flash and figure out some better ways to see blade. 4 Quote
CSM101 Posted February 27, 2019 Report Posted February 27, 2019 Just a tip: when you see a photo or a certain style that you like, why don´t you ask: How did you do that? Sometimes it can be very helpful. Uwe G. Quote
Blazeaglory Posted March 2, 2019 Report Posted March 2, 2019 I downloaded a camera app for my Samsung because the stock camera just wouldn't cut it. The new app is called "Open Camera" I think. It focuses SO MUCH BETTER! The micro feature actually focuses on close objects! Its still not perfect but its helped me allot. Other than that, I just play with different lighting, angles, time of day, type of bulb, flashlight, reflection, angle (again) haha...good luck! Quote
