O-Midare Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 This is a little Yoshihiro Tanto I have but I can't seem to figure out what tradition it was made in or anything about who this particular Yoshihiro is. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Dwayne R. Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 Maybe they are not sure where it was made just that it is Muromachi period.. If I copy the kanji 国不明時伐室町 correctly. John 1 Quote

Ray Singer Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 The kanji that John has written above reads Kuni Fumei. The NBTHK do not know who exactly made this piece, but are stating that the mei is authentic. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/13092-unrecorded-swordsmiths-and-shinsa/ 1 Quote
O-Midare Posted February 13, 2019 Author Report Posted February 13, 2019 Thank You Ray, it is a very beautiful little Tanto, I'm confused as to why they have so little insight in to such a beautiful piece. I was thinking maybe Bizen or Yamashiro, going by other tanto I have seen like this, but I am way down the totem pole in knowledge compared to many of you Nihonto Students. Quote
ChrisW Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 This is the exact kind of tanto I'd want: slender, elegant, and well-built. The horimono is definite gravy. 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 They may feel that the blade is wakimono, ie. shows traits that do not fit precisely within one of the mainline traditions and is therefore more difficult to categorize.
