..where this will go?

Well..i would like to see it to go right here to my home

Wow. Nice one. Who was the guy that said it read Bishu Osafune Sukesada :?:

Hmm....nice in polish and great condition. How on earth do militaria dealers end up with good stuff like this?

I haven't checked the mei yet to see if it is gimei, but I hope someone will do that and let us know if this one is as good as it seems? Will try and check it myself a bit later when I get a chance.

My opinion is that it is a gimei Gassan Sadakazu. I could post some images of mei from the Boston Museum Catalogue on the Gassan school if there's an interest.

The saya looks like a cheap tourist piece too. The rest of the mounts look reasonable but I don't think they are exceptional.

Moriyama san also pm'ed me his doubts and pointed here: http://www.nipponto.co.jp/swords/KT111197.htm

Sadakazu was indeed meticulous with his mei, and I would have to agree with Ford and Moriyama san. I guess it was a long shot anyways to find a shoshin sleeper like this :)

Nice polish still, and I would love to see the mei on the f/k. I revise my opinion in that it is gimei, but someone put some money into it with polish and fittings.

Am sure we will have some other comparisson mei soon to verify. Can't say the NMB aren't on top of things ;)

Gimei huh...fig...can't we get that one great story anymore.

Note to newbies..dont sell your books when you're hardup...the money gets spent, then you're right back where you were without the books

ill drop the poll guess to 8000 :doubt: as to where it ends.

I'd have to agree that the mei is looks questionable. What bothers me also is the way the hi are cut and how far into the kissaki they extend. They look very awkward and bulbous, falling short of that harmonious elegance the Gassan are so meticulously skilled in creating.

The tsuka looks new. The samegawa is bright white, the tsukaito is brand new, and the tsukamaki is poorly done. The menuki are also placed upside down. The fuchi is also made to accomodate a kozuka which isn't on the saya. The tenjogane has the ura facing depression, yet I see no images of a kozuka. The tsukashitaji also looks brand new.

Lots of questions for that kind of money.

Man that bo-hi sure looks wide to me...

Is that what you would call an O-bo-hi?

Gee, I sound like a poet,

And I didn't even know it,

Surely in my place, someone will put me...

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Right you are X shi also means death....much like my post of late. :glee:

I hardly call possibly saving interested members a few $1000 that were unaware of the gimei a "post of death" :D

It's a good service. Now how do we get a representative group of NMB members into those Sothebys and Christies auctions? :rotfl:

All, This is very reminicent of a couple of swords that were sent from Japan for sale in Christies decades ago - lavish gold mounts, white jabara bindings, decorated saya and no papers. Note with this one there is only one seppa and that rather dubious. Love the F/K though.

What is it about this mei that is "questionable", or "appears gimei"?

I compared it to four references and fail to see what may be obvious.

Would love to learn how the experts arrived at their conclusion.

Hi Todd,

I get a sense that you feel the opinion expressed here may be out of line, this being challenged by the final selling price.

With all things like this the final judgement comes down to the individual. The value of something is only maintained when we all agree to that "perceived" value. As such, my response to this result is that I don't agree with the apparent value expressed here. I wouldn't pay a 10th of that price for this particular item.

This is my own opinion and is irrelevant to the overall imagining of the value of the sword. The point is; will this sword sustain this assessment in the future. I don't believe it can.
