  1. Most interesting Morita san. I did not know Mitsuoki was used by Shibata Ka. Have you additional photos of the blade Tobias?
  2. Lovely blade Joe. My experience with Ed has been equally rewarding.
  3. Looks to a hagire about 1/2" in front of the ha-machi. If so, it is a fatal flaw.
  4. 3, 8, 9. Fun exercise, but difficult with a single photo...
  5. Will NTHK papers suffice Jocke?:
  6. Have you cleaned the blade? It looks similar to the effect "Saran Wrap" leaves on a blade when wrapped with it.
  7. My business makes it difficult to commit to an event which is months in advance. Your "mail in/at home" shinsa holds some attraction for me because of this Chris.
  8. Appears to be hagire, which yes-is a fatal flaw.
  9. A "Showato" can be anything other than made from tamahagane, yaki-ire to form hamon/tempered edge and H2O quenched-which is a traditionally forged Japanese sword-"Nihonto". You alone can decide if this blade is preferable to a modern Shinken. My thought is I would prefer a Japanese blade with some history (even Showato) than a run of the mill Shinken. Regards.
  10. Doesn't look to be a fake. Appears a stamp has been removed from nakago. Looks like a Showa-to: non traditionally made.
  11. I like that a great deal. If this is a Star stamped blade no wonder it is "big and beefy". The RJT specs call for "big and beefy". Enjoy your blade.
  12. It certainly appears to be an authentic Ichihara Nagamitsu blade. I have no knowledge of this seller, however I'm certain some of the "Oz" contingent will be of help (George san?).
  13. Hi-res photos would be nice. I could see virtually nothing (detail) of hamon/mei (signature on "tang"-nakago) with the camera panning to and fro. The tsuka cover is not rare. Could be a nice blade.
  14. Nice shot, great resolution. A bit unusual to see the shinogi not burnished.
  15. Polish looks pretty good for end of war blade as well. I would keep looking for information on this.
  16. The Dec. issue of "JSSUS Newsletter" has a great article by Paul Martin, "The Yoshihara Tradition". Some information on Kurihara Hikosaburo's effort to resurrect the art of the Japanese sword through his Nipponto Tanren Denshu Jo was quite interesting. Highly recommended reading for those interested in Gendaito. Well done Paul!
  17. Yes, I see the plugged ana in the last photo. Good eye Brian. At close inspection I agree yasurime was added to plugs. The individual lines do not quite line up with the rest of the yasurime in the last photo. The "original" yasurime appears to have been done before the plugs, before the mei/nengi (as usual). I have not seen this on an RJT blade before.
  18. Yes, I'll buy ShigeFusa. There is an RJT (Rikugun Jumei Tosho) listed on Mr. Steins site; (Kojima) Shigefusa. Rest assured that the RJT blades were DESIGNED to cut... The habaki on RJT blades I have seen have all been silver washed copper, as this one appears to be. Not sure what the "spots" are you refer to. They do not appear plugged ana, rather dents or something.
  19. The Star stamp does indicate Nihonto. Might try the search function for additional information. The mei/nakago shots are small and are oriented sideways. I think I make out Shige something. Others will be of more help. As to value, quite subjective. I would not hesitate at $1200 for a Star stamp blade in good condition. I have a couple (star stamped) blades that would not be my first choice for use in martial arts, again this is purely subjective. Let us know how you make out.
  20. Very lovely blade Jean. Would love to see it "in the flesh".
  21. Would anyone have, or know where to obtain an English for this book? (That should be English Index) Thank you for your effort.
  22. The voice of experience is seldom heeded... That aside; it's your blade, mount it as you wish. In my experience money spent on mounting a blade will very seldom (if ever) be returned. If that is of no concern, it is a moot point. My preference is a polished blade in shirasaya. Best of luck.
  23. Disgusting pigs. Perhaps a tutorial on sword handeling etiquette is in order. Never seen an entire show, only trailers on commercials. With what is on television here in the USA, it is not too difficult to see why the Jihadi's refer to us as "The Great Satan". To each his own I suppose.
