mywei Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 It is the 8th gen Tadayoshi I would probably be concerned about the nakago looking half of it has been hacked off Quote
Cuirassier Posted June 25, 2018 Author Report Posted June 25, 2018 Thanks Matt, very much appreciated. What issues would the short nakago bring if any?The blade is very good, no flaws, not fresh polish but good. Am I allowed to ask what people think it is worth? £800 ($1000 USD)? £1000 ($1300 USD)? More? Quote
Geraint Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 Dear Mark. This is papered so no doubts about who it is by, the condition of the nakago would bother some collectors so this shouldn't fetch top price but it's a nice looking package and should be affordable because of the reshaped nakago. If it doesn't bother you then go for it but be aware that when time comes to pass it along some may be put off. All the best. 1 Quote
Guest Rayhan Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 Don't buy OSuriage Shinshinto or Shinto swords unless you absolutely must have it. Quote
Prewar70 Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 That is the ugliest Nakago I've seen. I wonder why it was done. Quote
Geraint Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 "Don't buy OSuriage Shinshinto or Shinto swords unless you absolutely must have it. " But of course it's not o suriage, ugly yes, but not osuriage. All the best. Quote
w.y.chan Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 That is the ugliest Nakago I've seen. I wonder why it was done. Its probably altered to fit a Western style D guard that became popular in Japanese military in the late 19th century. 2 Quote
Stephen Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 Agree with Wah. If you like the blade work...just leave on tsuka. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 They didn't pay much attention during the Suriage process on the early Kyu Gunto. 1 Quote
w.y.chan Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 Hayama Enshin made many swords with similar shaped nakago often with a screw thread at the tip, unsigned. I think it is also partially to resemble an old cut down sword. Quote
Cuirassier Posted June 26, 2018 Author Report Posted June 26, 2018 Thanks guys; truly appreciated. Quote
