cuttingedge59 Posted January 7, 2018 Report Posted January 7, 2018 Hi all This is the tanto I brought from their Nov 30 th 2017 auction. I was the only bidder so got it for the starting price plus their 20% , total 540 usd. Shinshinto I think , Ubu nakago signed Kashu No Ju Kanewaka which looking at the yasurime is more than likely gimei. Nagasa is in good condition with a couple of nail catchers and staining , with a clearly visible hamon and activity. needs a couple of seppa but otherwise tsuka is tight and well done. Saya looks to have been refinished in recent years. Nagasa os 11.5 in or 29,2 cm Kasane of 24mm Mihaba of 8mm Chris NZ Quote
cuttingedge59 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Report Posted January 7, 2018 A few more pictures . Chris NZ Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted January 7, 2018 Report Posted January 7, 2018 Judging from the quality of Horimono I would say Gimei as well. Quote
Stephen Posted January 7, 2018 Report Posted January 7, 2018 Id say for under a grand you did ok, uchiko the heck out of them stains. Nice 1 Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted January 7, 2018 Report Posted January 7, 2018 Menuki look nice. Do the F/K Kashira match? Not a bad deal at the price you paid! Quote
cuttingedge59 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Report Posted January 7, 2018 Have used uchiko and light oil on the staining and since photo's have improved the visibility of the hamon and activity. I don't know if fuchi and kashira match , i'm thinking no as to me the themes seem different . But both are ok on there own. All fittings are done in Shaduko. Chris NZ Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted January 7, 2018 Report Posted January 7, 2018 That dude got into a bad brawl! Unfortuntely not a match ... The Menuki are solid and aside from probabky being Gimei the blade is otherwise solid, too for what it is. The whole package is worth the price you paid I would want to think. Everything else is up to your personal oppinion / taste. Personally I would want to the think that the Menuki are the nices part on their own and the Tsuba is the worst. That auction has had a lot of akward pieces. A huge load of blades in tourist mountds. There was one Tanto that looked like it could have been a Rai school blade but all the temper was probably lost. tokashikibob Posted January 8, 2018 Report Posted January 8, 2018 Those shodai and nidai Kanewaka blades are really nice blades, also expert horimono too if I remember right. How did the mei match up to references Chris? Quote
Greg F Posted January 8, 2018 Report Posted January 8, 2018 Good score Chris, i would be very happy with that price. If its something you want to hang onto you could send it over to OZ for Andrew Ickeringill to polish up. Congrats mate. Greg Quote

How did the mei match up to references Chris? Overall looking at the whole item the call would be gimei lots of little things that point to a copy. The mei is not quite a match to references as is other features. the yasurime is not correct for kaga den nor the quality of the horimono. Still a nice enough little item. Chris NZ Quote
