Closet Cleaning 2017 - The Last Couple For A While....

Hi,

 

As I have gotten all of the first batch (and then some) shipped out, here are the last couple of pieces I have left to part with for a while.

Tsuba 3: ginko/drawer pull $195 + actual shipping

 

 

This piece measures

 

70.1mm(H) X
64.1mm (W) X
5.6mm (T, max)

 

Since this isn't what I normally collect. I ended up showing it to Haynes as well.  He said this was the work of one of the northern Shoami groups, and that it was a pretty early example of this pattern (early edo or maybe even earlier), but I don't know - I'd just call it Edo period to be conservative...

 

An interesting kantei point (more visible in the VR sets/in hand - the lighting in the front on images accentuates the cross hatching) is that the maker made some effort to close up the areas of crosshatching where the nunome wasn't - this is something the shoami guys do..

 

I like the 3-dimensionality of how the ginko leaves are done.

Tsuba 4:  Owari (+ catalog)  $1200 + actual shipping

 

I've had this sun/moon themed piece for quite a while.  it was published in the 2008 KTK Exhibition catalog (I'll include a copy). 

 

The piece measures:

 

72.1mm (H) X
72.1mm (W) X
5.84 mm (T)

 

I believe it dates to the Muromachi period, but I suppose I should call it pre-edo to be conservative.  It has Hozon papers to Owari, but I suppose on a different day it could be kantei'd as Kanayama instead - but they're all from the Owari area, so....  Whatever...
